Haaland Scores Decisive Goal as Norway Beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1

Arlington, TX – The Norway National Team battled to a 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match on Tuesday afternoon.

The match kicked off at AT&T Stadium to a sold-out crowd of 80,000.

The second half kicked off with Côte d’Ivoire immediately launching the ball into Norway’s defensive third, looking to pin their opponents back and apply early pressure.

Yan Diomandé had the first chance of the match in the 8th minute when his effort from inside the box was sent just wide of the left post.

Ghislain Konan had the next chance when his right footed shot from the left of the box was sent just wide of the left p0st in the 21st minute.

Nicolas Pépé had another chance for Côte d’Ivoire in the 28th minute when his right footed shot from less than six yards out was sent wide of the left post.

Erling Haaland had Norway’s first shot in the 37th minute when his headed effort from a corner kick was saved by Yahia Fofana.

Entering the 39th minute, Norway took the lead.

Midfielder Martin Ødegaard found forward Antonio Nusa, who elected to curl an effort into the top-right corner to give Norway a 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, Alexander Sørloth had a massive headed chance that missed just to the right of the net.

In the 45th minute, Norway forward Antonio Nusa was issued a yellow card for fouling Guéla Doué.

Emmanuel Agabadou had the final chance of the half in the 45+2 minute when his header from the center of the box missed just to the left of the net.

After the initial 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with Norway ahead 1-0

The second half kicked off with Norway immediately launching the ball into Côte d’Ivoire defensive third, looking to pin their opponents back and apply early pressure.

Ibrahim Sangaré had the first chance of the second half when his right footed effort in the 52nd minute was sent high over the bar.

Less than two minutes later, Nicolas Pépé had an effort of his own that was saved in the bottom right of the net by goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland.

In the 60th minute, Côte d’Ivoire head coach Emerse Faé made his first two changes of the match by replacing Christ Oulaï & Ange-Yoan Bonny with Amad Diallo & Elye Wahi.

Guéla Doué had the next chance for Côte d’Ivoire in the 64th minute when his left footed effort from the center of the box missed to the right of the net.

In the 71st minute, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his first two changes of the match by replacing Antonio Nusa & Alexander Sørloth with Oscar Bobb & Andreas Schjelderup.

Entering the 74th minute, Côte d’Ivoire leveled the match.

Midfielder Amad Diallo combined with Nicolas Pépé for a give-and-go and then slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

In the 83rd minute, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his third change of the match by replacing Marcus Pedersen with Fredrik Aursnes.

Entering the 85th minute, Norway regained the lead.

Midfielder Patrick Berg squared the ball to find Erling Haaland for the tap-in finish to make it 2-1 to Norway.

In the 88th minute, Côte d’Ivoire head coach Emerse Faé made his two more changes by replacing Nicolas Pépé & Yan Diomandé with Oumar Diakité & Evann Guessand.

Norway’s final chance came in the 90th minute when Andreas Schjelderup’s right footed effort from inside the box missed to the right of the goal.

In the 90+3 minute, Côte d’Ivoire head coach Emerse Faé made his final change by replacing Ghislain Konan with Bazoumana Touré.

Amad Diallo had the last chance for Côte d’Ivoire in the 90+6 minute when his freekick effort was met with a spectacular diving save by goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland.

Following 90+7 minutes of action, Norway held on for the 2-1 victory.

Cote d’Ivoire have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Norway National Team are on the road set to take on the Brazil National Team in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16. The match will kick off in East Rutherford, New Jersey at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. EST.
