Seattle Sounders FC 1-2 Austin FC
SEATTLE, WA–This may well be rock bottom for Seattle Sounders FC this season. Austin FC had not won a road match in league play coming in, but they went out winning one over the Sounders, 2-1, at Lumen Field. It is the eighth straight loss in league play for the Sounders and it drops them to 12th in the Western Conference–though still just three points out of the playoff places.
After a largely uneventful first half, the match opened up for both sides in the second half. The Sounders had the chances early in the second half, but were unable to get anything past Damian Las. In the 66th minute, against the run of play, the Verde would take the lead.
Zan Kolmanic sent a cross to a criminally unmarked FAcundo Torres who one-timed the bal into the net. After more Sounders chances went begging, Austin doubled their lead with a golazo from Guilherme Biro off a cross from Brandon Vazquez in the 87th minute.
Stuart Hawkins pulled one back for the Sounders off an Albert Rusnak free kick, but it was too little, too late as the Verde held on for three points.
The Sounders will look to turn their season around at FC Cincinnati on Saturday (4:30pm PT, Apple TV). Austin will host a surging Philadelphia Union on Saturday (7:30pm CT, Apple TV).
