Yusuf Hat-Trick, Harrison Assist Treble Lead Revolution to 3-0 Win Over D.C. United

FOXBOROUGH, MA –New England Revolution (10-3-7, 33 pts.) were victorious 3-0 over D.C. United (5-9-6, 24 pts.) on Wednesday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Audi Field to a crowd of 18,000.

Starting XI versus D.C. United.

New England opened the match on the front foot, quickly looking to advance the ball and apply early pressure in D.C. United’s midfield.

Matti Peltola registered the first shot of the match for D.C. United in the fourth minute, as his effort from outside the box was deflected before being cleared away.

Jackson Hopkins followed with another opportunity just two minutes later, but his effort was denied by a sliding block from Revolution defender Matt Polster.

Less than a minute later, Kimito Nono had another opportunity for D.C. United, but his headed effort from the right side of the box missed just wide of the right post.

In the 13th minute, Revolution midfielder Brooklyn Raines was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on D.C. forward Tai Baribo.

Raines had New England’s next effort toward goal in the 17th minute after Carles Gil laid the ball off to the midfielder, whose shot sailed over the crossbar.

D.C. United had the next opportunity just five minutes later, when a service toward the back post was narrowly missed by Kimito Nono, whose attempted header snuck just over the bar.

Entering the 23rd minute, New England took the lead.

Winger Jack Harrison played a left-footed cross-field switch toward Peyton Miller, who headed the ball back into the center of the box for midfielder Alhassan Yusuf. Yusuf then headed the ball into the bottom-right corner to give New England a 1-0 lead.

In the 26th minute, D.C. United midfielder Andre Dozzell was issued a yellow card for a foul on Dor Turgeman just outside the penalty area.

New England nearly doubled its advantage moments later when Carles Gil stepped up for the ensuing free kick, but his effort sailed just over the crossbar.

Lucas Bartlett had the next opportunity for D.C. United in the 30th minute, when his header from the center of the box narrowly missed the left post.

Two minutes later, Revolution defender Matt Polster was issued a yellow card for a foul on D.C. forward Louis Munteanu.

D.C. United’s best chance of the half came in the 35th minute when forward Louis Munteanu attempted to chip goalkeeper Matt Turner, but his effort sailed just over the crossbar.

Louis Munteanu had yet another massive chance to level the scoreline in the 39th minute when a combination play between Jackson Hopkins, Munteanu, and Tai Baribo resulted in Baribo’s initial shot being blocked. The rebound then fell to Munteanu, whose effort from less than six yards out ultimately sailed over the crossbar.

Matt Polster had New England’s next opportunity in the 43rd minute, but his right-footed strike from outside the box sailed high and wide of the goal.

Entering the 45th minute, New England doubled their lead.

Following a ball toward the back post from Jack Harrison, Alhassan Yusuf was there to tap home the finish, doubling New England’s advantage and giving the Revolution a 2-0 lead.

New England had two final chances in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, when an effort from Will Sands was blocked before Alhassan Yusuf’s follow-up sailed high over the crossbar.

After the opening 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England holding a 2-0 lead.

Prior to the start of the second half, D.C. United head coach René Weiler made two substitutions, replacing Sean Nealis and Jackson Hopkins with Nathan Ordaz and Brandon Servania, respectively.

D.C. United opened the second half on the front foot, quickly looking to advance the ball and apply pressure in New England’s midfield.

Kimito Nono had the first opportunity of the second half in the 49th minute when he attempted an overhead kick that narrowly missed wide of the right post.

Carles Gil had New England’s next opportunity in the 57th minute when he drove through the middle of the park before unleashing a left-footed strike that deflected off Matti Peltola and was ultimately collected by goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

Five minutes later, Alhassan Yusuf had a massive opportunity to extend New England’s lead when his right-footed effort from the center of the box was blocked.

Dor Turgeman had the next chance for New England in the 63rd minute when his effort toward goal was pushed out for a corner by Sean Johnson.

Less than a minute later, Turgeman came close once again, directing a header toward goal that was denied by a spectacular save from Johnson.

Entering the 66th minute, New England added to their lead.

Following yet another service into the area by winger Jack Harrison, the ball was headed home by Alhassan Yusuf for the hat-trick. This is Harrison’s third assist & Yusuf’s third goal of the game.

After the goal, D.C. United head coach René Weiler made two more substitutions, replacing Louis Munteanu & Kimito Nono with Nikola Markovic & Hosei Kijima.

Nathan Ordaz had the next chance of the match in the 71st minute when his curling effort toward goal was met by a fantastic save from Matt Turner, who tipped the ball onto the crossbar and out of danger.

Less than a minute later, Tai Baribo had a headed effort from a corner kick that narrowly missed wide of the left post.

In the 75th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his first substitution of the match, replacing Dor Turgeman with Wilson Harris.

In the 83rd minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made two more substitutions, replacing Matt Polster and Jack Harrison with Cody Baker and Marcos Zambrano, respectively.

Lucas Bartlett had the next chance for D.C. United in the 87th minute when his header from the center of the box was saved by goalkeeper Matt Turner.

In the 88th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his final two changes of the match, replacing Carles Gil and Peyton Miller with Griffin Yow and Judah Siqueira, respectively. The substitution marked Siqueira’s MLS debut.

Less than a minute later, D.C. United head coach René Weiler made his final substitution, replacing Andre Dozzell with Jared Stroud.

After the full 90 minutes and four minutes of stoppage time, the match concluded with New England holding on for a convincing 3-0 victory.
