Dembélé Hat Trick Powers France Past Norway 4-1 to Win Group I

Foxborough, MA – The French National Team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Norway in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage match on Friday afternoon.

The match kicked off at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 64,000.

The match kicked off with Norway immediately launching the ball into France’s defensive third, looking to pin their opponents back and establish an early foothold in the match.

Kylian Mbappé had the first chance of the match less than one minute in when his right-footed strike hit the crossbar and was cleared away.

Manu Koné had France’s next chance in the 4th minute when his right-footed effort from the center of the box was saved by goalkeeper Egil Selvik.

Entering the 7th minute, France took the lead.

Forward Kylian Mbappé played a cross-field through ball to find Ousmane Dembélé entering the box, where he took on three defenders and unleashed a shot that flew into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

In the 10th minute, Norway midfielder Patrick Berg was issued a yellow card for fouling Michael Olise.

Less than a minute later, Kristian Thorstvedt had Norway’s first chance of the match when his effort towards goal was saved by goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Norway had another opportunity in the 14th minute when Jørgen Larsen’s effort sailed over the bar.

Entering the 20th minute, France added to their lead.

Forward Kylian Mbappé played yet another cross-field through ball to find Ousmane Dembélé, whose shot from outside the box flew into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-0 to France.

Less than a minute later, Norway pulled one back.

Defender Andreas Schjelderup played the ball centrally to find Thelo Aasgaard, who slotted a right-footed effort into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-1.

Theo Hernandez had the next chance in the 24th minute when his right-footed effort from outside the box was sent over the bar.

Entering the 32nd minute, France added to their lead.

Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni found Ousmane Dembélé inside the box, and Dembélé elected for a left-footed shot that snuck inside the bottom-left corner to make it 3-1 to France. A 31-minute hat trick.

Michael Olise had the final chance of the half for France in the 45+1 minute when his right-footed effort inside the box was sent over the bar.

Prior to the start of the second half, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his first two changes of the match, replacing Fredrik Bjørkan and Kristian Thorstvedt with Marcus Pedersen and Morten Thorsby.

Norway began the second half on the front foot, immediately playing the ball into France’s defensive third to pin their opponents back and assert control.

In the 48th minute, Norway were awarded a penalty kick after winger Oscar Bobb was fouled inside the box by Theo Hernández.

The ensuing penalty kick by Jørgen Larsen was saved in the bottom corner by goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Leo Østigård had the next chance for Norway in the 55th minute when his header from inside the six-yard box missed just to the left of the net.

In the 66th minute, both teams made changes. Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his third substitution of the match, replacing Henrik Falchener with Sondre Langås. France head coach Guy Stéphan replaced Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise with Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola.

Oscar Bobb had Norway’s next chance in the 72nd minute when his right-footed effort was saved by goalkeeper Mike Maignan and pushed out for a corner kick.

In the 74th minute, France midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni was shown a yellow card for a foul on Thelo Aasgaard.

Just two minutes later, in the 76th minute, France head coach Guy Stéphan made his third change of the match, replacing Dayot Upamecano with Ibrahima Konaté.

In the 83rd minute, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his final two changes of the match, replacing Andreas Schjelderup and Oscar Bobb with Jens Hauge and Antonio Nusa.

In the 87th minute, France head coach Guy Stéphan made his final two changes of the match, replacing Jules Koundé and Kylian Mbappé with Jean-Philippe Mateta and Malo Gusto.

Theo Hernández had another chance to get on the scoresheet in the 89th minute when his left-footed effort from outside the box went over the bar.

Entering the 90+4 minute, France added to their lead.

Midfielder Bradley Barcola played a left-footed cross to the head of Désiré Doué, who scored France’s fourth goal of the match to make it 4-1.

After 90+6 minutes, the match concluded in a 4-1 victory for France.
