COLUMBUS, Ohio — New England Revolution II (11-8-8, 45 pts.) battled Columbus Crew 2 (12-9-6, 46 pts.) to a 1-1 draw before prevailing 5-3 in the ensuing penalty shootout on Sunday night.
The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Columbus Crew Stadium.

Columbus opened the match on the front foot, immediately pushing forward and applying pressure in New England’s defensive third.
Chase Adams registered the first effort of the match in the second minute, but his right-footed shot from inside the penalty area was saved by Revolution II goalkeeper Donovan Parisian.
Jared Smith created New England’s first opportunity in the 10th minute, sending his left-footed effort from the left side of the box over the crossbar.
Adams threatened again in the 15th and 17th minutes, but Parisian denied both of his attempts from inside the box.
Less than a minute later, Makai Wells tested the Columbus goalkeeper with a left-footed effort that was comfortably collected.
In the 25th minute, Columbus Crew 2 midfielder Kevin Ghamble and Revolution II midfielder Logan Azar were both shown yellow cards.

Following a corner kick that traveled untouched through the penalty area, Jared Smith connected with a first-time strike through traffic and into the back of the net to give New England a 1-0 lead.
In the 32nd minute, Columbus Crew 2 midfielder Moses Nyeman was shown a yellow card for a hard foul on Javaun Mussenden.
Three minutes later, Columbus forward Chase Adams was booked for a hard challenge on Jake Shannon.
Marcos Zambrano created New England’s next opportunity in the 41st minute, but his right-footed effort sailed over the crossbar.
After 45 minutes and two minutes of first-half stoppage time, the Revolution carried their 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Prior to the start of the second half, Columbus Crew 2 head coach Federico Higuaín made three substitutions, replacing Chase Adams, Moses Nyeman and O’Neal Taylor with Prince Forfor, Jamil Danjaji and Giorgio De Libera.

In the 64th minute, Revolution II head coach Pablo Moreira made his first three substitutions of the match, replacing Tylon Smith, Marcos Zambrano and Jared Smith with Chris Mbai-Assem, Jayden Da and Schinieder Mimy.

Four minutes later, Higuaín made Columbus’ fourth change, replacing Brown with Immanuel Ewing.
Mbai-Assem was shown a yellow card in the 72nd minute, while Revolution II goalkeeper Donovan Parisian was booked one minute later.
Makai Wells created New England’s next opportunity in the 76th minute, sending a right-footed shot from the center of the penalty area over the crossbar.
Columbus midfielder Nico Rincon was shown a yellow card in the 79th minute.
In the 84th minute, Moreira made his fourth change of the match, replacing Wells with Aarin Prajapati.
Columbus found the equalizer in the 89th minute.

Following a corner-kick delivery from Nico Rincon, 16-year-old Jamil Danjaji directed a header into the bottom-left corner to level the match at 1-1.
Rui Aoki nearly found a winner for Columbus in the second minute of stoppage time, but his header from inside the penalty area was saved by Donovan Parisian.
Less than a minute later, Gabe Dahlin produced a headed opportunity at the opposite end, but Aoki blocked the effort and cleared the danger.
After 90 minutes, the match remained level at 1-1, sending the two sides to a penalty shootout to determine the winner of the additional point.

Jake Shannon stepped up first for New England and calmly converted his penalty into the bottom-right corner to give Revolution II a 1-0 advantage in the shootout.
Brent Adu-Gyamfi responded for Columbus, burying his right-footed attempt into the top-right corner to level the shootout at 1-1.
Javaun Mussenden converted New England’s second penalty into the bottom-right corner before Jamil Danjaji answered with an effort down the middle, making it 2-2.
Jayden Da then restored New England’s advantage, slotting his penalty into the bottom-right corner to give Revolution II a 3-2 lead.
Immanuel Ewing attempted a Panenka with Columbus’ third penalty, but sent his effort over the crossbar.
Damario McIntosh capitalized by burying New England’s fourth attempt into the bottom-left corner, extending the advantage to 4-2.
Kevin Gbamblé kept Columbus alive with a successful penalty into the bottom-left corner, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
Logan Azar then stepped up and sealed the shootout victory, converting his right-footed penalty into the bottom-right corner to secure the additional point for New England.
