Colorado Rapids 1-0 Real Salt Lake
COMMERCE CITY, CO–For the third successive season, the Rocky Mountain Cup will stay in Colorado as the Rapids defeated Real Salt Lake, 1-0, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Rapids are now seventh in the Western Conference with the win–their fifth straight at home–while RSL slip to tenth and below the playoff line. The Utah side are now winless in their last eight league matches and winless in their last nine away league matches (0-6-3).
Just about all the statistics favored Colorado in this match outshooting RSl, 13-4, and not allowing a single shot on target. For a while though, the Rapids weren’t able to find the accuracy or quality in their chances as well with their expected goals on the night at just 1.00 and four shots on target. They only needed one to go in, though, and that came in the 58th minute. Youssef Maziz’s corner was headed in by Reggie Cannon for what would be the game’s only score.
Colorado travel to Columbus next Saturday (5:30pm MT, Apple TV), while RSL host LAFC next Saturday (7:30pm MT, Apple TV).
