Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 Real Salt Lake
SEATTLE, WA–The Sounders ended their 13-match winless streak in league play with a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake at Lumen Field on Wednesday night. The win puts Seattle level on points with Portland, thought currently owns the ninth and final playoff position in the Western Conference as they have more wins. Seattle does have a match in hand. RSL remain 13th and three points off the playoff line.
After a goalless first half with very few clear cut chances, the Sounders got on the board in the 48th minute. Off a feed from Paul Arriola, Danny Musovsky struck from outside the penalty area past Rafael Cabral to give the Sounders the lead.
Albert Rusnak doubled the lead in the 73rd minute against his former team–also scoring from outside the box. It’s now five goals from the last two league matches after just 25 in the first 23 this season.
The Sounders stay home to face another team on the outside looking into the playoffs in Minnesota United (7:30pm PT, Apple TV), while RSL host New England on Saturday (7:30pm MT, Apple TV).
