New York opened the match on the front foot, quickly looking to advance the ball and apply early pressure in New England’s defensive third.
Jackson Yueill had the first opportunity for New England in the fifth minute when a corner kick delivery from Carles Gil was sent into the area and deflected out toward Yueill. The midfielder’s ensuing effort was sent high into the air before being comfortably claimed by goalkeeper Matt Freese.
Jack Harrison had the next chance for New England in the 21st minute when a free kick into the area toward Ethan Kohler was deflected to the top of the box. Harrison met the loose ball with a shot that was deflected away and ultimately cleared.
Talles Magno had NYCFC’s first chance of the match in the 22nd minute when his effort toward goal was sent wide of the net.
Less than a minute later, NYCFC threatened again after a poor giveaway by Will Sands led to an effort from Nicolás Fernández that was blocked away for a corner kick by goalkeeper Matt Turner.
Entering the 26th minute, New England were awarded a penalty kick after Peyton Miller was brought down inside the penalty area.

Midfielder Carles Gil stepped up to take the penalty but was denied in the bottom-right corner by goalkeeper Matt Freese. Freese then recovered quickly to deny Gil’s effort on the rebound, with the ball eventually being headed out of play to keep the scoreline level at 0-0.
New England had a massive opportunity to open the scoring in the 33rd minute when winger Peyton Miller chipped an effort toward goal, but NYCFC defender James Sands was there to clear the ball off the line and keep the match scoreless.
Entering the 36th minute, New England took the lead.

In the 40th minute, NYCFC head coach Pascal Jansen made his first two changes of the match, replacing Jonny Shore and Tayvon Gray with Keaton Parks and Mitja Ilenič, respectively.
New England had a massive chance to double their lead just one minute later when Miller played another beautiful cut-back pass to find Turgeman, whose close-range effort was denied by NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese.
NYCFC responded with a massive opportunity of their own in the 43rd minute when a ball into the box was met by Talles Magno, whose headed effort struck the post before being cleared away by New England.
The visitors continued to apply pressure in the 45th minute. An effort from Magno was initially deflected before Andrés Perea unleashed a strike from the top of the box that was parried away by goalkeeper Matt Turner for a corner kick.
NYCFC’s sustained pressure ultimately paid off in the 45+1 minute as New York leveled the scoreline.

Following the ensuing corner kick delivery into the area, Magno headed the ball toward the six-yard box, where James Sands was there for a simple tap-in finish to make it 1-1.
After the opening 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 1-1.

Prior to the start of the second half, NYCFC head coach Pascal Jensen made his third change of the match by replacing Talles Magno with Luighi.
New England opened the second half on the front foot, quickly looking to advance the ball and apply pressure in New York’s midfield.
Peyton Miller had the first chance of the half when goalkeeper Matt Turner played a 75-yard through ball that was met with a right footed shot that was saved by goalkeeper Matt Freese in the 50th minute.
In the 61st minute, NYCFC midfielder Keaton Parks was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on midfielder Carles Gil.
Matt Turner made a spectacular save in the 63rd minute, diving to deny Keaton Parks’ effort toward the top corner and keep the scoreline level.

Less than a minute later, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his first change of the match, replacing Jackson Yueill with 17-year-old midfielder Judah Siqueira.
Matt Turner was called into action once again in the 65th minute, producing another spectacular save to deny Nico Fernández from close range and keep New England in the match.
Peyton Miller had the next opportunity for New England less than a minute later, sending a right-footed strike just wide of the right post.
In the 68th minute, both teams made changes. NYCFC head coach Pascal Jansen made his final two substitutions of the match, replacing Andrés Perea and Bénie Traoré with Raul Gustavo and Kevin O’Toole.
Just one minute later, Revolution midfielder Jack Harrison was issued a yellow card for thwarting an NYCFC counterattack.

Less than a minute later, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his second change of the match, replacing Matt Polster with Cody Baker.
NYCFC’s next opportunity came in the 78th minute when Nico Fernández’s effort toward goal was blocked by Cody Baker and sent behind for a corner kick.
In the 80th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his final two changes of the match, replacing Dor Turgeman and Jack Harrison with Wilson Harris and Diego Fagúndez.
New England’s next opportunity came in the 84th minute when Diego Fagúndez delivered a free kick into the area that was eventually cleared away by the NYCFC defense.
Peyton Miller had the next chance less than a minute later when another service into the area from Fagúndez was met by Miller, whose headed effort was comfortably claimed by goalkeeper Matt Freese.
After the full 90 minutes and two minutes of stoppage time, the match concluded in a 1-1 draw.
