Bellingham the Hero as England Defeat Norway 2-1 After Extra Time to Reach World Cup Semifinals

Miami, FL – The England National Team battled to a 2-1 victory over Norway in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals match on Saturday evening.

The match kicked off at Hard Rock Stadium to a sold-out crowd of 65,000.

The match kicked off with Norway immediately launching the ball into England’s defensive third, looking to pin their opponents back and establish an early foothold in the match.

The first chance of the match fell to Jude Bellingham in the 19th minute, but his header from Elliott Anderson’s corner kick drifted wide of the right post.

Harry Kane had England’s next chance in the 28th minute, but his free-kick effort sailed over the crossbar.

Erling Haaland had a golden opportunity to give Norway the lead in the 35th minute, but Jordan Pickford produced a strong save to deny his header from Julian Ryerson’s cross.

Entering the 36th minute, Norway took the lead.

Midfielder Martin Ødegaard found Andreas Schjelderup on the left side of the penalty area. The forward took on his defender before firing a left-footed shot off the underside of the crossbar and into the net to give Norway a 1-0 lead.

Alexander Sørloth had an opportunity to double Norway’s lead in the 39th minute, but his left-footed strike from the right side of the penalty area sailed just over the crossbar.

Less than a minute later, Martin Ødegaard tested Jordan Pickford with a left-footed strike from long range, but the England goalkeeper made the save low to his right.

Alexander Sørloth had one final opportunity before halftime in the 43rd minute, opting to take on his defender rather than square the ball to Erling Haaland. His left-footed effort took a deflection before being comfortably gathered by Jordan Pickford.

Jude Bellingham had another chance for England in the 45th minute, but his right-footed effort from the center of the penalty area was blocked and cleared.

Entering the 45+2 minute, England leveled the scoreline.

Forward Anthony Gordon picked out Jude Bellingham inside the penalty area, where the midfielder took two touches before slotting a left-footed shot from just outside the six-yard box into the bottom-right corner past Ørjan Nyland to level the match at 1-1.

Harry Kane had the final chance of first-half stoppage time in the 45+3 minute, but his long-range effort was comfortably saved by Ørjan Nyland.

After the initial 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 1-1.

Prior to the start of the second half, England head coach Thomas Tuchel two changes, replacing Declan Rice & Noni Madueke with Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka.

Norway opened the second half on the front foot, quickly pushing the ball into England’s defensive third as they looked to apply early pressure.

England had the first chance of the half in the 52nd minute when Bukayo Saka’s left footed shot from the right side of the box was blocked and cleared.

Less than a minute later, Erling Haaland had a chance for Norway when his headed effort narrowly missed to the left of the net.

Entering the 55th minute, Norway thought they had taken the lead when defender Torbjørn Heggem tapped home from close range after Jordan Pickford produced a spectacular save.

However, following a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to a foul that occurred before the corner was taken. Norway was instead awarded another corner, and the score remained level.

In the 60th minute, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his first substitution of the match, replacing Julian Ryerson with Frederik Aursnes.

In the 68th minute, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made two more changes by replacing Andreas Schjelderup & Alexander Sorloth with Antonio Nusa & Oscar Bobb.

Less than three minutes later, England head coach Thomas Tuchel made another substitution, replacing Anthony Gordon with Reece James.

Norway created two strong chances to take the lead in the 76th minute. Frederik Aursnes first dragged an effort wide to the left before Kristoffer Ajer struck the crossbar with a header.

Antonio Nusa had Norway’s next opportunity in the 85th minute, but his right-footed shot toward the bottom-left corner was saved by Jordan Pickford.

A minute later, Tuchel made another change, replacing Nico O’Reilly with Djed Spence.

Less than three minutes later, England head coach Thomas Tuchel made another substitution, replacing Ezri Konsa with Morgan Rogers.

In the 90th minute, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken responded with a change of his own, replacing David Møller Wolfe with Marcus Pedersen.

Jude Bellingham had the final chance of regulation in the sixth minute of stoppage time, but his header from the center of the box drifted just wide of the left post.

After 90+7 minutes, the sides remained deadlocked, sending the match into extra time.

Before the start of extra time, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made another substitution, replacing Torbjørn Heggem with Leo Østigård.

England started extra time aggressively, immediately carrying the play into Norway’s half and putting the defense under pressure.

England created two chances to take the lead in the 93rd minute, but an effort from Harry Kane was denied by Ørjan Nyland.

However, England broke through just a minute later to take the lead.

Following a shot on target by Morgan Rogers the ball was parried back in front of the goal and tapped in by midfielder Jude Bellingham to make it 2-1 to England.

Entering the 99th minute, England initially appeared to have been awarded a penalty after Djed Spence went down under a challenge from Oscar Bobb. However, a VAR review determined that Spence had simulated the contact, and the penalty decision was overturned.

Antonio Nusa created Norway’s first chance of extra time in the 103rd minute, but his left-footed effort was deflected behind for a corner by Marc Guéhi.

At the end of the first period of extra time, England carried a 2-1 lead into the break.

Before the start of the second period of extra time, Norway head coach Ståle Solbakken made his final substitution, replacing Erling Haaland with Jørgen Strand Larsen.

Norway emerged from the extra-time interval with renewed urgency, quickly taking control of possession and forcing England onto the back foot.

Patrick Berg had an opportunity to equalize in the 108th minute, but his right-footed strike from outside the box sailed just over the crossbar.

Less than a minute later, Bukayo Saka tested Ørjan Nyland with a left-footed effort, but the Norway goalkeeper was equal to it.

Moments later, Djed Spence unleashed a long-range strike that forced another diving save from Nyland. The rebound fell kindly to Saka, whose close-range follow-up was brilliantly denied by the Norwegian goalkeeper before the danger was cleared.

In the 111th minute, England head coach Thomas Tuchel made his final change by replacing Jude Bellingham with Dan Burn.

Norway threatened again two minutes later when Antonio Nusa’s right-footed effort deflected off Dan Burn and went behind for a corner. The resulting delivery eventually fell to Oscar Bobb, but he fired over the crossbar.

In the 117th minute, Norway defender Kristoffer Ajer was shown a yellow card for dissent after protesting the referee’s decision to stop play following a collision between Jordan Pickford and one of his England teammates.

After 120 minutes of action, England held on to secure a 2-1 victory over Norway.
