FOXBOROUGH, MA. — The New England Revolution are acquiring defender Tylon Smith on loan from Queens Park Rangers with an option to make the move permanent.
Smith will join New England’s first team and occupy a senior roster slot.

Tylon Smith is a 21-year-old, 6’0, 165lb defender from Jamestown, Stellenbosch, South Africa.
At the club level, Smith has made seven senior appearances, totaling 439 minutes. He began his career with PSL Reserve League side Stellenbosch FC during the 2024–25 season. Six months after signing his first professional contract, Smith joined EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers, signing a four-year deal. He now joins the New England Revolution in 2026.
Across his senior club career, Smith has recorded one goal, no assists, and has not received a yellow or red card.
Internationally, Smith has made 12 appearances for South Africa’s U-20 national team, totaling 1,020 minutes. He has also earned one senior appearance for South Africa.

On August 9, West London Sport reported that Tylon Smith was set to join the New England Revolution on loan from Queens Park Rangers, with an option to make the move permanent.
Despite having limited experience at the club level, the young defender has enjoyed a rapid rise on the international stage over the past 18 months.
Smith represented South Africa at the 2024 COSAFA U-20 Cup, helping the team capture its ninth title and qualify for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. He then helped South Africa win its first U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title, securing qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Smith was named Player of the Tournament and later nominated for Young Player of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards.
Smith was also a key member of South Africa’s squad at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, starting at right center back. He helped South Africa defeat a United States side coached by current Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović during the group stage. South Africa’s tournament run ultimately ended with a loss to Colombia in the Round of 16.
Smith will join a New England defensive group featuring Mamadou Fofana, Ethan Kohler, Tanner Beason, Keegan Hughes, Andrew Farrell, Ilay Feingold, Will Sands and Cody Baker.
