New England Revolution defeat Hartford Athletic in preseason finale 2-0

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution were victorious 2-0 over USL Championship side Hartford Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 12:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.

Hartford Athletic did not provide a starting lineup or substitutes

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and building out of the back.

New England had the first chance of the match in the 2nd minute when Brandon Bye’s cross was met with a header by Ignatius Ganago. His effort was met with a catch save by Hartford’s goalkeeper.

Just 2 minutes later, New England had another chance when Carles Gil found Ignatius Ganago for a through ball. He then played a cut-back pass and found Will Sands whose effort was deflected away.

New England’s next chance came entering the 14th minute when Carles Gil played a square ball to find Leo Campana. His left-footed shot was met with a diving save by Hartford’s goalkeeper.

Entering the 30th minute, New England should’ve been given a penalty kick due to a foul on Luca Langoni. No foul was called.

In the 32nd minute, Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul near midfield.

New England’s next chance came in the 38th minute when Will Sands looked to find Ignatius Ganago for the simple finish, however, the ball was blocked away for a corner kick.

Entering the 39th minute, New England took the lead.

Following a corner kick delivery from Jackson Yueill, the ball was headed home by Leo Campana to take the lead for New England.

Leo Campana had yet another chance in the 41st minute when his 1v1 with the keeper was met with a goal line clearance by Hartford’s center back.

In the 45th minute, a Hartford Athletic player was issued a yellow card.

After 45+2 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England ahead 1-0.

The second half kicked off with Hartford Athletic starting from the center circle and launching the ball up the right side of the field.

In the 47th minute, Revolution midfielder Carles Gil was issued a yellow card for thwarting a counterattack.

New England’s first major chance of the second half came in the 57th minute when a Will Sands cut-back cross was met with a shot by Ignatius Ganago that was easily saved by Hartford’s goalkeeper.

Hartford’s first chance of the half came in the 66th minute when a free kick was caught by Aljaž Ivačič.

In the 67th minute, Revolution defender Mamadou Fofana was issued a yellow card.

Hartford’s next chance came in the 69th minute when their freekick struck the wall.

In the 70th minute, Hartford Athletic had a line change.

In the 77th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first change of the match by replacing Ignatius Ganago with Noel Buck.

Less than 30 seconds later, Buck had a chance that was saved out for a corner kick.

In the 81st minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second change of the match by replacing injured Will Sands with Ilay Feingold.

In the 83rd minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his third, fourth, and fifth change of the match by replacing Carles Gil, Luca Langoni, and Leo Campana for Allan Oyirwoth, Jack Panayotou and Maxi Urruti.

New England’s next chance came in the 85th minute when Ilay Feingold had two chances that were blocked by the chest and face of a Hartford Athletic defender.

Entering the 87th minute, New England added to their lead.

After the 90+2 minutes, the match concluded with New England holding on for the 2-0 victory.

New England conclude the 2025 preseason with a 4W-1D-1L record.

New England Revolution (0-0-0, 0pts.) will begin the 2025 MLS Season on the road for the 30th consecutive year as they will head to Nashville, Tennessee to face Eastern Conference side Nashville SC (0-0-0, 0pts) home to Gillette Stadium to face Hartford Athletic of the USL Championship. The match is set to kickoff at Geodis Park on Saturday, February 22nd at 8:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
