If you were to have seen the score between Wigan Athletic and Hull City at half-time yesterday (July 14), you would have been excused for assuming that it was a Rugby League fixture.
An abysmal first-half performance from Grant McCann’s side meant that Wigan came into the break seven goals to the good. Kal Naismith, Jamal Lowe and Joe Williams – in addition to braces for Kieffer Moore and Kieran Dowell – provided a huge boost to Wigan’s hopes of survival.
McCann made three of his five substitutions at half-time as Ryan Tafazolli, Kevin Stewart and Tom Eaves were sent on to spare Matthew Pennington, Jon Toral and Mallik Wilks from any further blushes.
The trend of goals slowed during the second half as only one further wound was inflicted onto the Tigers – Dowell’s emphatic finish midway through the half put the game far beyond any minimal chance of a Hull City comeback.
The result leaves Hull City embarrassed, humiliated and staring relegation in the pupils, but how did football fans experience the game as it took its toll.
2 minutes – Wigan Athletic take the lead through Naismith (1-0)
Setting records now for how early we concede

Have our players got money on the opposition scoring in first 5 mins?

The result was not beyond doubt at this stage, but City fans were already beginning to notice where this match was heading…

Absolute worst I’ve seen them. Formation poor, manager poor, owners poor, players hopeless

Half Time – Wigan lead 7-0 over Hull City
As the whistle was blown for half-time, Twitter was dominated by humoured comments about Hull’s misfortune.
For those that think this match is over, worth remembering that Wigan were 6-0 up against Hull in 2017 and lost.
Although that was rugby league tbf.

Heartbroken. Where has the fight, soul and pride gone. First time ever I have been embarrassed to be a Hull City fan. First time in 55 years.
