Colorado Rapids 1-2 FC Dallas

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The Rapids may be in the US Open Cup semifinals, but they will go into the World Cup break having lost six of the last eight league matches following a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas on Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Dallas has now won four of the last five and jumped to fourth in the West for the moment pending what Seattle does on Sunday against LAFC. The Rapids are now 11th in the West.

The Rapids went down early on 12 minutes from the penalty spot after Logan Farrington was tripped in the area by Paxton Aaronson. Farrington would convert the ensuing sport kick. Aaronson made amends a minute later getting on the end of a Georgi Minoungou cross to level the score.

The Rapids had chances to go ahead before halftime, but were wide of target. Rafael Navarro was in on goal in the 41st minute after stripping Shaq Moore of the ball, but also shot wide. Three minutes later, FC Dallas would return to the penalty spot. This time, Ran Binyamin was clipped in the box by Minoungou. Santiago Moreno would convert this spot kick to put the visitors ahead.

Jonathan Sirois would keep the sheet clean for the second half for FC Dallas as he made five saves on the evening.

Both these teams will return to action on Wednesday, July 22nd. Colorado will host struggling San Diego (7:30pm MT, Apple TV) while Dallas will travel to also struggling Portland (9:30pm CT, Apple TV).
