The world cup preparation cannot be said to have worked like clockwork for Ottmar Hitzfeld’s Switzerland. They suffered their third straight loss on Tuesday, with a non qualifier from the CONCACAF region becoming the latest side to defeat them.
Winston Parks who plays his league football for Timisoara in Romania scored the only goal for Costa Rica in the 57th minute.
Blaise Nkufo playing against his erstwhile Twente Enschede striking partner Bryan Ruiz played the first 64 minutes before being replaced by FC Basle’s Xherdan Shaqiri.
Excellent! At this rate we’ll have Nkufo back from SA lickety split!

Kufo seems to be taken out of the game around the 65 minute mark often. Do we expect him to be a 65 minute player? Should we expect Seamon on the field after 65 minutes of work? (he he he)

rg,
the period between 62 and 67 minutes has always been, in my opinion, prime time to make a change, all other factors being equal.
However, a Sounders specific answer would be to recall Sigi’s comments after the NY game when he credited the strikeforce for ‘softening up’ the NY defence for Montero to take advantage late on.
That ‘softening up’ process takes a lot out of the strikers who do it, as they tend to get buffeted about and work very hard in completing the task effectively.

Nice Prosty. The high road!
I would say we are a team that can do well with a situation of a 65 minute striker. It sounds as if we are going to develope Montano into a Striker who might work well as a super sub. Montero could do well too.

I wouldn’t sweat when Nkufo is taken off. If a team is losing somebody has to go at the 65th-ish minute. I’m just saying…
