IPL 2020: Who are the best performing English players at this year’s IPL?

0

The first stage of the IPL is coming towards an end with all the teams trying to make it into the top four positions after 14 games.

A number of England players are participating in the competition, let’s take a look at who are the best performing players from Eoin Morgan’s T20 side.

Chennai Super Kings – Sam Curran

It has been a very tough season for one of the most successful teams in IPL history, sitting at the bottom of the standings with just three games remaining.

However, for Sam Curran it has been a positive first season at the franchise, contributing 173 runs in ten innings, with a top score of 52. He has also showed promise with the ball, picking up ten wickets so far at an average of 28.90 and is one player which an ageing side will be keen to keep hold of moving forward.

Rajasthan Royals – Tom Curran, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer & Jos Buttler

Four players of the England contingent are invovled with Rajasthan, but it has largely been a frustrating year for the side, currently sitting in seventh position with just three games remaining.

Archer has performed the best of the English players, picking up 15 wickets in eleven matches at an average of 19.27 and has been one of the stand out players of the competition.

Buttler has had a mixed season, scoring 271 runs in ten games, taken three catches behind the stumps and will really need to step up in the final three matches if RR are to have any chance of reaching the top four.

Stokes joined the competition later than the others due to being in New Zealand with his father who has been struggling with an illness.

Since coming in, he has opened the batting and has scored 110 runs in five matches with a top score of 41 but has largely found it difficult at the top of the order and would maybe be better suited to a role lower down the order.

Curran is the final player in the franchise and he has found matches tough to come by – featuring in just four matches, although he has averaged 83 with the bat in this time while really struggling with the ball picking up just three wickets in the five matches which he has played in.

Royal Challengers Bangalore – Moeen Ali

It has been another frustrating season for Moeen Ali in the IPL, featuring just once in which he secured figures of 1-21 and 11 runs in his only match of the season against Delhi Capitals.

He is making his second appereance of the competition today as his side face CKS.

Kolkata Knight Riders – Eoin Morgan and Tom Banton

Eoin Morgan has had a strong season for KKR with the bat, scoring 295 runs at an average of 36.88 and has recently taking over the captaincy. The side currently sit in fourth place and are well placed to reach the top four with games running out.

Much like Ali, Banton has also struggled to find many opportunities, featuring in just two matches in which he has scored just a combined 18 runs, interestingly both matches he has played have come against RCB.

Kings XI Punjab – Chris Jordan

Jordan like a number of England players has had a disappointing tournament, claiming just five wickets in his six games at an average of 40. He’s performed better in the past couple of matches which has coincided with the side’s return to form as four wins in succession has given them a fighting chance of qualifying for the play-offs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad – Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow has been one of the most consistent English players in this season’s tournament, scoring 345 runs in eleven matches at an average of 31.36 and a best of 97.

He has also been tidy behind the stumps, taking six catches whilst also claiming one stumping although his side have struggled to find a consistent run of form and currently sit in sixth in the standings.
