New England cruise past Toronto FC for their 4th straight win

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (5-1-4, 16 pts) were victorious 2-0 over Toronto FC (1-4-6, 7 pts). on Saturday Afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at BMO Field to a crowd of 15,000.

Kickoff between New England & Toronto FC.

The match kicked off with Toronto FC starting from the center circle and swiftly advancing the ball into New England’s defensive third.

Toronto had the first chance of the match when Federico Bernardeschi’s effort from a corner kick went just wide of the net.

Entering the 12th minute, New England took the lead.

Defender Ilay Feingold took the ball down the right flank and sent a cross in that was headed away and then was met with a left-footed volley by Carles Gil to give New England a 1-0 advantage.

Toronto had the next best chance when a corner kick taken in the 19th minute was headed on by Matty Longstaff and cleared off the line by Leo Campana.

Less than 5 minutes later, Toronto had yet another amazing opportunity to score when Ola Brynhildsen’s close range shot was blocked away by Tanner Beason & Mamadou Fofana.

In the 25th minute, Revolution forward Leo Campana was issued a yellow card.

Less than two minutes later, entering the 27th minute, New England added to their lead

Midfielder Alhassan Yusuf found forward Leo Campana on the right flank in an advanced scenario where he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

New England had yet another amazing chance to add to their lead in the 33rd minute after a shot by Ignatius Ganago was saved by Sean Johnson and the rebound by Carles Gil was met with another save by Sean Johnson.

In the 34th minute, controversy arose when Leo Campana struck a player away from the ball. Shockingly, he was not given a second yellow card.

Toronto had a chance in the 44th minute when a shot by Raoul Petretta went just wide of the net.

Ignatius Ganago had a chance to add to the lead when his effort inside the penalty area was saved by Sean Johnson.

Less than a minute later, Ignatius Ganago had yet another chance that was met with an unbelievable save by Sean Johnson.

After 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with New England ahead 2-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Toronto FC head coach Robin Fraser made his first two changes of the match by replacing Ola Brynhildsen & Sigurd Rosted with Tyrece Spicer & Lazar Stefanovic.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and quickly advancing the ball into Toronto FC’s defensive third.

Peyton Miller had the first chance of the second half when his effort from the left flank went wide right of the net.

Entering the 59th minute, Toronto FC forward Federico Bernardeschi went down in the penalty area and pleaded for a penalty, however, midfielder Matt Polster won the ball and no foul was given.

Leo Campana had the next chance in the match when his effort entering the 64th minute when high and wide over the net.

In the 65th minute, Toronto FC head coach Robin Fraser was forced to make his fourth change of the match by replacing Nicksoen Gomis with Kobe Franklin.

Toronto had the next chance of the match when Federico Bernardeschi’s effort went high over the bar.

Peyton Miller had another chance in the 68th minute when his header from a delivery into the area by Carles Gil went just wide.

In the 74th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first two changes of the match by replacing Ignatius Ganago & Peyton Miller with Will Sands & Tomás Chancalay.

Sean Johnson made yet another spectacular save in the 80th minute where he denied Carles Gil & Leo Campana from close range.

In the 80th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his third & fourth change of the match by replacing Ilay Feingold & Leo Campana with Brandon Bye & Luca Langoni.

In the 87th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his fifth and final change of the match by replacing Carles Gil with Maxi Urruti.

After 90+5 minutes, the match concluded with New England holding on to the 2-0 victory.

With the result, New England move to 7th place in the MLS Eastern Conference. New England currently sits 3-points out of 3rd place with a game in hand.

The New England Revolution (5-1-4, 16 pts.) remain on the road to face off against USL Championship side Rhode Island FC (1-1-3, 4 pts) in a US Open Cup Match. The match is set to kickoff at Centreville Bank Stadium on Wednesday, May 7th at 4:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
