England will be hoping to end a run of three consecutive defeats when they face the Rest Of The World XI at the London Stadium in the upcoming Soccer Aid 2022 in June.

Soccer Aid for Unicef is set to return this coming summer at the London Stadium after raising an incredible record-breaking £13m for charity last year.

“I can’t believe I get to run out onto the pitch with some of my heroes all while raising money for such a great cause.

To be given the captain’s armband is a real honour and I’m determined to lead us to victory.”

Liam Payne, England Captain Soccer Aid 2022.

A winning start to the popular charity event seen England win five of the first seven events since it’s creation in 2006.

England have since lost three in a row to the World XI, including a 3-0 defeat last time around and will be determined to stop the World XI from making it four as they prepare to lock horns again in June at the London Stadium.

Popular TV celebrity and former Love Island winner Kem Cetinay scored two of the goals, with TV presenter and comedian, Lee Mack applying a third in the 90th minute.

“Thousands of people there with smiles on their face, it feels like a festival, and the short answer is no, I can’t believe that it’s gone on this far and it raised that much money it feels unbelievable.”

England will once again be able to call upon three members of the “Golden Generation” with Sky Sports double-act Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher joined by BT Sport regular Joe Cole, while Fara Williams, England women’s most-capped player of all-time will add further top-level experience.

“Harry Redknapp, England Manager’ – who would ever have thought that, eh? Not that I was keeping score – but they tell me that England haven’t won since 2018.

“Oh dear. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I would never turn my country down, so when they asked me to be England Manager, I had to say yes. I know Usain is a bit miffed I’m leaving him – but the big man will get over that!”

Only a few stars have been currently confirmed for the World XI team, however Olympic legend Usain Bolt will captain them whilst ‘Line of Duty’ star and Celtic fan Martin Compston, who used to play for Greenock Morton, is returning alongside singer-songwriter Chelcee Grimes.

“Absolutely buzzing to be back this year… Pinch myself every time I’m asked to be a part of this incredible event.”

Soccer Aid has grown increasingly popular over the years, with viewers and football fans alike tuning in to see a host of former professional players and mouthwatering celebrities battle it out for the much coveted Soccer Aid trophy, all whilst raising awareness and much needed funds for the UNICEF kids charity.

Established in 2006 by ex-Take That member Robbie Williams in aid of the children’s charity Unicef, Soccer Aid has fast become one of the most popular sporting events in the sporting diary with thousands of fans attending and millions of TV viewers watching the world over.

Robbie will perform his iconic ballad Angels in front of 60,000 people during half-time, either side of a match which will see former One Direction singer Liam Payne captain England against Usain Bolt’s World XI at London Stadium.

Soccer Aid is a British charity annual event that has raised over £38 million in aid of UNICEF UK, through ticket sales and donations from the public.

The televised event is a friendly-style football match between two teams, England and the Soccer Aid World XI (formerly Rest of the World (ROW) until 2018), composed of celebrities and former professional players representing their countries.

Soccer Aid was initiated in 2006 by Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes. It initially took place every two years, it is now held annually and showcased live on ITV.

It is produced by Initial and distributed by Endemol Shine Sport, a Dutch company that distributes Dutch Eredivisie coverage.

Television coverage began on ITV on 22 May 2006 in a show presented by Ant & Dec with Irishman Dermot O’Leary taking over as main presenter in 2010.

UNICEF UK, also known as the United Kingdom Committee for UNICEF, is one of 36 UNICEF national committees based in industrialised countries.

The national committees raise funds for the organisation’s worldwide emergency and development work. In 2007, UNICEF UK raised £41.3 million for UNICEF’s work with children worldwide.

UNICEF UK also advocates for lasting change for children. For example, it works to change government policies and practices that are detrimental to children’s rights in the UK and internationally.

More than 70,000 people were in the stands to watch the first Soccer Aid between England and the World XI at Old Trafford.

It was such a hit that the event returned two years later and continued to do so until 2018 when it became an annual event.

Soccer Aid harnesses the power of football to help make sure that children can grow up happy, healthy and able to play.
