Mansfield Town will be looking to build on their two recent draws and go for the killer blow against promotion-pushing Forest Green.
Nigel Clough’s men will be looking to the victory against Cheltenham Town earlier this month as to how they were able to beat a top League Two side.
The Stags have drawn their last two matches and will be hoping to finally get a victory on the board which will be their 10th of the season.
In their last encounter, they faced Grimsby Town with a win only on the minds of the amber and blues as they faced the Mariners.
A superb strike from George Maris put the Stags ahead after 20 minutes. Fantastic work from Jason Law saw him pass the ball off to Stephen McLaughlin who in turn laid it off to Mansfield’s number 10 as his thunderbolt nestled into the back of the net.
The visitors managed to get an equaliser in the second-half through Lenell John-Lewis. Substitute George Williams spotted the forward unmarked and played the corner into the forward’s path as he headed the ball past Aidan Stone.
Mansfield were in front once more only four minutes after the Mariners equalised. Jason Law was able to turn and shoot the ball past James McKeown to mark his first goal for the Stags.
In the dying embers of the game, Williams would get on the scoresheet through a fabulous free-kick. Ryan Sweeney’s foul saw the midfielder take advantage of the set play as the ball ended up in the goal.
Williams could have won the game in added time, but his header hit the post and it looked like Stone had it covered anyway with the game ending in a 2-2 draw.
The Stags’ opponents this time round are Forest Green Rovers, who are currently sat third in the league and only four points off of table-topping Cheltenham Town with a game in hand.
During the weekend, the Rovers travelled to second-place Cambridge United in a battle at the top and for a valuable three points in the fight for automatic promotion.
The Abbey natives were able to have a greater share of possession alongside key shots on target. One of those shots at goal made its way in as Wes Hoolahan’s goal in the 38th minute gave the hosts the lead.
From then on, it was a game well managed by Mark Bonner’s men as they executed their strategy well and ran out with the valuable three points.
The last time the two faced each other was at the New Lawn back in November with the Stags picking up a valuable three points.
George Lapslie gave Mansfield the perfect start as five minutes in the Nottinghamshire club took the lead. That lead was doubled in the 35th minute through Harry Charsley’s goal to put the Stags in good stead for the rest of the match.
Forest Green pilled on the pressure and finally reaped their rewards in the 84th minute through Odin Bailey but it was too little too late as the amber and blues were victorious.
Mansfield Town have won 50% of their games at home against the Gloucestershire side, but their last victory came back in 2019 at the One Call Stadium and they will be hoping to get that win.
As it stands, each team have won three matches and there have been three draws, so this game has more at stake with either side taking the upper hand in the all-time records tally.
Three points will allow Forest Green to close the gap to the top, whereas the victory for the Stags will get them a step closer to the vital 50-point mark.
