Sam Allardyce brought Modibo Maiga to West Ham United for just under £5million in the summer of 2012.
Maiga went on strike at French side FC Sochaux during the 2011 summer transfer window, as he tried to secure a move to Newcastle, he failed a medical however in January 2012 due to a problem with his knee, thus signed for West Ham the following season.
The forward had a reputation for scoring goals netting 24 in 52 games for French Club Sochaux, however the 30-year-old forward failed to live up to expectation at Upton Park scoring just seven goals in 45 appearances.
Highlight of his time in England, saw him take a disappointing loan at QPR, but also net on his Hammers’ debut against Crewe and score a late League Cup winner in a thrilling comeback against rivals Tottenham to send his side into the semi-finals. It was believed to be his first goal in over a year, a moment which West Ham fans will never forget, as it sealed three victories over Spurs in the 2013/14 season.

The striker’s career in East London was shown by an inability to fulfill much goalscoring potential, however he left West Ham on a positive note scoring a superb goal in a defeat to Bournemouth in August 2015 which was his last involvement with the Irons.
Maiga had to fight for his position against the likes of Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan, which was suprising to some on why he was purchased in the first place.
It was a shock to most Hammers fans, who believed that the centre forward needed more time at the club and had potential to succeed.
The Mali international began his career with Raja club Atletic where he won several competitions, including the Arab Champions League and the Moroccan League.
He then spent time at Le Mans playing alongside former Premier League players of Gervinho and Stephane Sessegnon. Despite his side getting relegeated, Maiga established himself to French Football and scored 15 goals in 88 games.
In 2014, the striker joined another French side of Metz, on a season long-loan with an option to make it permenant. He went on to score nine times in 25 games but his luck didn’t seem to change as his side were relegated.
Maiga opened a new chapter in his life after leaving West Ham to sign for Saudi Arabain outfitters Al Nassr and it looked he was getting his career back on track, scoring 11 in 30 games. But his move with the International Najd’s Knight didn’t last long as he was released.
He then moved to the UAE and had a spell at Ittihad Kalba before joining Ajman, where he currently is playing his Football. He has scored 12 in 28 appearences since joining in 2017, with only two coming this season.
Ajman were relegated to the second division but managed to climb back to the top flight in 2017 and now find themsleves battling for survival again this season, currently sitting in 12th, level on points with Al Fujairah. They remain nine points from Al Dhafra who are above them with five games left this season. The Orange Brigade side however, are still searching for a victory, as they remain winless in their last seven games.
