Spurs moved within four points of first-place Manchester United after a fantastic display from the Lilywhites sees them beat last-place Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane.

Jose Mourinho opted for a 3-4-3 formation as he allowed Steven Bergwijn to join Heung-min Son and Harry Kane in a front three that saw Kane drop back into a number ten role and allowed the other two forwards to make overlapping runs ahead of the England striker.

The first set play came for Tottenham and it was Son that went over to take it. He zipped the ball into Sheffield United’s penalty area with Serge Aurier able to pounce of the ball and the defender beat Aaron Ramsdale from close range giving the Ivorian his second goal of the Premier League season and Son’s sixth assist of the campaign.

Two minutes later, the South Korean could have added to his 12 Premier League goals this season. He ran onto the end of a Kane through ball and dinked Ramsdale, but unfortunately for Son, the ball hit the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick.

Just before half-time, Kane turned to his ice-cold finishing to give Tottenham a two-goal cushion going into half-time. On the edge of the box, the striker got the ball and simply slotted it into the bottom corner as he wheeled off to celebrate his 12th goal of the season joining Son at the top of the goalscoring charts in the Premier League for Spurs this season.

Sheffield United did not go down without a fight and it had to be said that they came out fighting as the Blades were first to score in the second-half.

A lovely cross from John Fleck found the head of David McGoldrick with United’s top goalscorer heading the ball past Hugo Lloris to keep the game alive for the home side.

Three minutes later, an absolute worldie of a goal put the game beyond the Blades’ reach. The last player in the front three trio, Bergwijn, played a lovely scoop pass from the edge of the area to Tanguy Ndombele who was running into the box.

The midfielder decided to go for an audacious effort from a rather tight angle. Tottenham’s no.28 saw Ramsdale narrowly off his line and decided to chip the goalkeeper which in the end paid off as the Englishman was left squabbling and saw the ball go into the back of his net.

Bergwijn, Kane and Son looked unstoppable as a strike force always working back when they lost the ball and always talking with each other on their individual roles that they had during the course of the 90 minutes against the Blades.

Starting with Bergwijn, the Dutchman is a massive threat for any team with his pace and dribbling attributes that have really complimented his playing style over the years.

Working in a front three, he is able to utilise his best abilities with himself and Son making overlapping runs ahead of Kane and therefore getting the much-needed confidence-boosting goal contributions.

He was the most fouled player during the course of the game being fouled four times by the Sheffield United team. Also,  the no.23 was the most accurate passer out of everyone on the pitch with 96% pass completion showing his capabilities as a provider once more.

Moving onto Son, he constantly was working his socks off even when he wasn’t on the ball looking to get into space and create space for his teammates to drive into.

The South Korean was determined to get on the scoresheet but it never fell for him. He still will be chuffed with an assist from the match and him and Kane look to be a frightening duo to all Premier League defences.

He made a valiant effort all round as he looked to help the team grow into the match and continue their rhythm throughout their game.

His pace helps this Spurs team a lot as when you need a counter-attack he is your go-to guy. Son had a few chances where he was looking for either Ndombele or Hojbjerg to play a through ball to his feet but never got that service as the passes never actually happened or were simply to short to roll into his path.

Finally, Kane completes this trio which was a nightmare for the Blades’ defenders. He seemed to orchestrate everything and carried on to fulfil his defensive duties which we have become accustomed to since the start of the new campaign.

After his goal in the first-half, the England international look to fire a chance he was given at a clearly struggling and nervous Ramsdale and tried to get more goals for Tottenham.

In the end, he will gladly take another goal in the Premier League as he bares down Mohamed Salah for the Golden Boot award, the Egyptian having scored one more goal than the Tottenham striker this season, and the all-time Premier League top five as Frank Lampard is only 22 goals ahead of Kane.

This result allowed Spurs to close the gap on Manchester United at the top of the table to four points with the title race well and truly on as the top six are separated by five points.

Sheffield United remain bottom of the league as they continue to struggle with Chris Wilder’s men looking to do everything in their power to survive this season. The gap to safety is now 11 points and they need six points if they even want to think of lifting themselves off the bottom of the Premier League.
