Charlton Athletic will be looking to give some festive cheer to their fans as they host Plymouth Argyle at The Valley on Boxing Day in League One.
Charlton Athletic will again, unfortunately, be behind closed doors with no fans. So much has changed in terms of the Coronavirus.
When Charlton played their last home game against AFC Wimbledon on December 12th, London was in tier two. Fast forward two weeks and London has been in both tier three and the new tier four restrictions.
On the pitch, Charlton are in a good vein of form. They are unbeaten in their last three matches and are only four points behind leaders Portsmouth with the Addicks also having a game in hand on the leaders. A win against Plymouth will put them in sixth ahead of Ipswich Town who have had their games postponed for the rest of the season due to an outbreak of the virus at the club.
As for the visitors, their form coming into this game is shocking. They won their first match last weekend against MK Dons 1-0 after losing their last six games in a row prior to that match. Their bad form has seen them languishing in 14th place just four points above Northampton Town who are occupying the last relegation position at the moment (21st).
Team news
For Charlton Athletic, they will still be without long-term absentees Ryan Inniss, Alfie Doughty and Akin Famewo. Andrew Shinnie also remains on the sidelines for this match, however, their squad is boosted by the return of forward Paul Smyth.
Smyth, on loan from QPR this season has been back training with the squad after a knee injury since last month’s win over Ipswich Town. Midfielder Albie Morgan will also be available for selection after completing his period of self-isolation.
Plymouth Argyle are assessing a knee injury to midfielder George Cooper. The 24-year-old was ruled out of their win last week against Mk Dons due to this. Plymouth are hoping that the midfielder can play a part on Boxing Day.
