Winless West Brom host high-flying Spurs as the Baggies search for their first Premier League victory

West Brom have been unable to get a win in their opening seven Premier League games after they were promoted back into the top flight.

Spurs have only lost once in the league and will look to dispatch the Baggies in commanding fashion.

West Brom’s last Premier League victory actually came against Spurs at the Hawthorns in the penultimate game of the 2017/18 campaign.

Despite Tottenham dominating with 74 per cent possession and 18 shots in the fixture, a 92nd-minute goal from Jake Livermore gave West Brom the win with their only shot on target.

West Brom have failed to win a game this season so far with three games drawn and lost four. A draw against Chelsea could have easily been a win, but the Blues were able to claw a three-goal deficit back it back to 3-3 in the closing moments.

The Baggies faced Fulham on Monday night in their last fixture, a game that was poised to be a bore draw between two relegation candidates.

Bobby Decordova-Reid and Ola Aina scored in the first-half to guarantee Fulham the victory as the Cottagers grinded out a 2-0 victory.

Spurs have played two games in the space of a week as they beat Brighton 2-1 in the Premier League last weekend and emerged victorious over Ludogorets 3-1 in the UEFA Europa League.

Harry Kane opened the scoring against Brighton in the 13th minute of the game from the penalty spot to secure his 14th goal contribution in the Premier League.

Brighton’s bright youngster Tariq Lamptey levelled it up for Brighton in the 56th minute. Ultimately, the returning Gareth Bale scored a header in the 73rd minute to guarantee Spurs the three points.

A trip midweek to Bulgaria followed on Thursday as they faced Ludogorets on Matchday Three of the UEFA Europa League.

On his 300th appearance for Tottenham, Kane scored his 200th goal for the London club as the striker opened the scoring again in the 13th minute of the game.

Lucas Moura doubled the lead in the 32nd minute as the two teams went into half-time with Spurs 2-0 up.

Claudiu Keseru scored for the Bulgarian team five minutes into the second-half, but Giovani Lo Celso restored the two-goal cushion that Spurs had in the 62nd minute and the London club went onto win the game 3-1.

A win against West Brom could see the London club go top of the Premier League, at least for a couple of hours, but would see them one point ahead of Liverpool and two points ahead of Leicester City who also play on Sunday.

The Baggies and Spurs have faced each other 24 times before in the Premier League. Tottenham have won nine times, West Brom four times and 11 draws within that.

In the last five meetings, there have been three 1-1 draws alongside a Spurs 4-0 thrashing at White Hart Lane in January 2017 and that West Brom 1-0 in the penultimate game of the 2017/18 season.

Spurs are the best team in terms of goals scored this season and the two forwards, Harry Kane and Son-Heung Min, are very influential in that.

Kane has scored six times and assisted on eight occasions and Son has scored eight times in the Premier League which is the joint highest in the Premier League.

West Brom have the worst defensive record in the Premier League so far this season, conceding 16 goals this season.

This needs to be sorted and the Baggies need to keep a good defensive shape against Tottenham. If Spurs could exploit the defensive flaws we could see a thumping against West Brom.
