AFC Bournemouth come from behind to maintain unbeaten start

Rodrigo Riquelme came off the bench to rescue a point for Bournemouth in a 1-1 draw with Derby County.

The first chance of the afternoon came for the visitors. The in-form Martyn Waghorn was found by Wayne Rooney just outside the box, but his effort went well wide of the target to even trouble Asmir Begovic.

The Rams early dominance continued as defender Matt Clarke met a Rooney header, but his effort was just over the top.

It didn’t take long for the early pressure to pay, Graeme Shinnie scored following a Rooney free-kick which struck Dominic Solanke to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Bournemouth really failed to live with the visitors’ intensity in the opening exchanges, with Phillip Cocu’s side on the front foot from minute one.

It took the Cherries half an hour to create their first opening, Jack Stacey arrived at the back post following some good work from Solanke on the ball, but the wing back’s effort didn’t have enough power to trouble David Marshall.

The best moment of the half for the home side came on the stroke of half time, Solanke applied pressure on Curtis Davies before winning the ball back and playing a one-two with Adam Smith, but the Cherries’ number nine couldn’t direct his strike goalwards.

Some neat interplay between Solanke and Junior Stanislas gave the striker a shot at goal just outside the six-yard box as the Englishman couldn’t get it past Marshall. Derby went into the break ahead.

Striker Josh King was introduced at the break, in place of Stanislas as Jason Tindall looked to add more cutting edge in attacking areas.

The first chance of the second half came for the away side through Tom Lawrence after he worked some space and moved towards goal before hitting his effort which was off target.

Bournemouth improved after the break with Wednesday night’s hero Arnaut Danjuma hitting the post after working it well down the left and was so unfortunate to not find an equalizer.

Lawrence was played through on goal but some strong defending from the Bournemouth captain Steve Cook saw it out for a corner as the Rams looked to add another goal.

From the resulting corner, Lawrence picked out Jason Knight with the midfielder’s effort well claimed by Begovic.

Derby thought they were going to go back ahead but some heroic defending from Cook on the line kept out a Lee Buchanan strike which was destined for the back of the net.

Bournemouth’s summer signing, Rodrigo Riquelme, levelled the scoring at 1-1 after he scored with a volley at the back post after some great work on the flank from Diego Rico

The result means the Cherries remain unbeaten but do drop a place to third in the table, below Swansea City while Derby remain in the bottom three on goal difference despite the point.
