After four formation laps the safety car finally went into the pits and the drivers were able to start the wet German Grand Prix.

The race started very well for Hamilton with the five-time World Champion staying in the lead from the start with Bottas and Raikkonen making up the podium places.

On the opening lap, Vettel gained six positions and was up to P14 from P20.

On lap two, Sergio Perez deployed the full safety car after his spin on the straight after Turn ten.

After a chaotic start, most of the drivers went into the pit to change tyres onto the intermediates creating more tension and excitement to this already great race.

After the safety car came in, Hamilton stayed in the lead with Bottas and Verstappen in P2 and P3.

A brilliant overtake from Leclerc in turn two saw the Ferrari driver go past Magnussen on the wet tyres with Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg also able to dispatch the Haas driver.

Sebastian Vettel was up to eighth place after dispatching over half of the grid and making significant progress and a podium may be a possibility for the German.

By lap nine, everyone completed one pit stop and all the drivers were on the intermediate tyres which is the quicker tyre out the two tyre compounds.

On lap 15, Daniel Ricciardo retired from the race due to an engine failure same as last year when he was in his Red Bull. On lap 19, Carlos Sainz spun at turn 17 but he was able to keep his engine going and returned back onto the track into 14th place, just behind Lando Norris.

On lap 28, Lando Norris was out of the race due to a loss of power which compounded McLaren’s misery.

A second Ferrari in the space of two years at this race crashed out with Charles Leclerc crashing into the barrier and getting stuck in the gravel trap at turn 17.

Lewis Hamilton also crashed at turn 17 losing his front wing due to spin as he lost his lead. It was turning out to be a hell of a German Grand Prix.

At the half-way point, Verstappen was in the lead and behind him was Hulkenberg with Bottas in P3. Albon in P4 and Hamilton in P5, Sainz and Raikkonen in P6 and P7 with Vettel in P8 and Gasly in P9 with Giovinazzi in the finally points position in P10.

On lap 34, the stewards handed a five seconds time penalty to Lewis Hamilton due to going on the wrong side of the bollard when entering the pit lane.

By lap 37, Max Verstappen extended his lead by nearly eight seconds as the Red Bull driver made the most of his wet racing experience as he set his sights on a race win.

On lap 41, another driver ended up in the barrier at turn 17. This time it was Nico Hulkenberg who was driving a phenomenal race.

On lap 46, down at the hairpin after a fantastic battle between Hamilton, Albon, Sainz and Gasly, it was the Mercedes who stayed in third with Sainz moving up into fourth.

With 15 laps to go, Verstappen was in the lead with Stroll in P2 and Kvyat completing the podium places.

The World Championship leader, Lewis Hamilton, went off at turn 1 and surprisingly kept his car out of the barriers.

Over the last three or so laps, Bottas was trying to get past Stroll but, the Canadian was doing superbly well to keep the Mercedes driver behind him and on lap 57, Bottas spun out of the race.

On lap 62, Gasly crashed into the back of Albon and out of the race.

Vettel was up to second place from 20th as the German crowd cheered for the home-grown hero.

Max Verstappen crossed the line and won the German Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel crossed the line in second with Danil Kvyat finishing the race in P3 and a second podium ever for Toro Rosso.
