Bakayoko targeting Champions League return with Milan

AC Milan midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has stated his intentions to play in the Champions League with the Italian giants.

Bakayoko joined the Serie A outfit on loan from Chelsea in July 2018 with an option to buy the France midfielder at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old admitted he’d like to play a part in any Champions League campaign Milan achieved but was aware of his contract with his parent club. Speaking to France Football he said:

“I’ll do everything to ensure Milan qualify for the next edition of the Champions League. It’s been five years since the Milan fans heard its anthem and I want to be there when it rings around San Siro again.

“We’ll see how the season ends, also because I have a contract with Chelsea, who are still a very important club to me.”

The former Monaco man started life slow in the Italian city before stringing together a run of form reminiscent of his time in Ligue 1 which prompted his move to London.

“I’m having a good season, I’m very grateful to Milan and I’m very happy here, even though I was criticised a lot at the beginning.

“Still, it’s normal. Everyone expected more from me, so it’s no surprise. I can’t think about the future too much.”

Bakayoko has made 21 appearances for Milan in Serie A this season. Gennaro Gattuso’s side face Chievo at the weekend as they look to strengthen their grip on third place and Champions League qualification.
