Dusseldorf came back to get a draw that felt like a win. Hertha fought with Hoffenheim. BVB, Eintracht, and Gladbach secured their perches. All that and more in Matchday 12 in the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich came out of the blocks firing, but it was a resilient Dusseldorf with a fox in the box that meant the match played out to a 3-3 draw. For the visitors, it felt like a win moving off bottom of the league.
In recent seasons, teams would go to Munich knowing that they faced defeat. Fortuna went down 2-0 within the first 20 minutes and history would not be kind to the visitors. At the death of the half, Dodi Lukebakio found the back of the net on a counter attack and it was on. Thomas Muller scored a second of the match to go 3-1 up, but the speed of the Belgian scored two racing towards goal to show that all you need to take on Bayern is speed.
Hertha Berlin had fallen on tough times, but this hard earned 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim could be what brings back that early season spark.
Within 12 minutes, Hoffenheim had climbed to a 2-0 lead only to concede to Berlin captain Vedad Ibesevic. Following that, the reciprocal happened as Hertha conceded to Hoffenheim. TSG would have felt safe with a 3-1 lead, but goals from Matthew Leckie and Valentino Lazaro in the 71st and 87th minutes, respectively, to share the spoils in the points.
Borussia Monchengladbach faced Hannover 96 knowing that a win or draw would mean they’d go second in the table. After a 4-1 win, they have truly earned their way into the title fight.
American Bobby Wood gave the 96ers an early lead with a first minute goal. After that, the Foals scored two in each half and secured their 26th point of the season and kept pace with Borussia Dortmund four points above.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund secured a bigger league lead on reigning champions Bayern Munich with a 2-1 win over Mainz. This road victory secures a four-point lead at the top with nine in difference to Bayern.
Eintracht Frankfurt wasn’t considered a European contender or a title hopeful, but a 3-1 win away to Augsburg means that the Eagles are firmly in third in the table.
Schalke had some focus on midweek Champions League, but their 5-2 win was a performance that did not show it. American Haji Wright made his first appearance for the Royal Blues after not going out on loan.
Bayern Leverkusen recorded a 2-0 victory over Stuttgart that continued their roller coaster of a season. For Stuttgart, this moved them to rock bottom of the league.
Wolfsburg had been in search for a win and home to Leipzig, they recorded a very unlikely 1-0 victory.
Werder Bremen will feel the better as they came out of their visit to the Black Forest with a late earned 1-1 draw with SC Freiburg. After such a hot start, things in the Northern Free City had grown tense while points dried up.

Dodi Lukebakio earns the honors easily. A one-man wrecking crew, his hat trick was all about his speed in how it caused the Bayern players to panic. Lesson for everyone to take on hand and learn from.
