India will be required to bat out the entirety of the final day at the Gabba at Australia if they are to secure the series in the final match of the series.
The hosts were bowled out for 294 in their second innings just before the close with star batsman Steve Smith falling for 55, leaving the tourists an unlikely 328 for victory.
India have been struggling with injuries particularly in the bowling department but Mohammed Siraj (5-73) and Shardul Thakur (4-61) shared nine wickets to help bowl the Aussies out for a second time.
In the eleven balls that were possible before the end of play, openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill led India to 4-0 to set up an interesting final day in Brisbane.
With 98 overs set to be possible on the final day, the visitors will be determined to bat the day out with the quality of the Aussie’ bowling line up and no Virat Kohli in the team it will more be a case of trying to see the game out than chase the scorer and secure the series with a big couple of months approaching with England test to visit in February for a four match series.
To underline just how tricky it will be for India to win this match, Australia are unbeaten in 32 matches at the Gabba last losing there all the way back in 1988 against the West Indies.
The highest successful chase at the same ground is also just 236 which India’s opponents scored against West the Indies, 70 years ago.
The weather forecast is also a little bit mixed so it is all set to be a thrilling final day at the Gabba in the soaring heat of Australia.
