Revolution II & Atlanta United 2 battle to 1-1 draw, NE win 4-2 in penalties

SMITHFIELD, RI– New England Revolution II (0-1-0, 2 pts) battled to a 1-1 draw and then were victorious 4-2 in penalties versus Atlanta United 2 (0-1-0, 1 pts) on Sunday night.

The match kicked off at 8:00 p.m. ET at Beirne Stadium.

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle as they elected to swiftly advance the ball into Atlanta United 2’s defensive third.

New England had the first chance of the match in the 2nd minute when a ball sent forward into the box by midfielder Allan Oyirwoth was left for defender Schinieder Mimy to send it centrally towards forward Myles Morgan, was shot, sent on target, was deflected, and fell for forward Jayden Da, however, his effort was claimed by goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom.

Jayden Da had New England’s next chance in the 6th minute was comfortably saved by Jonathan Ransom.

Liam Butts had Atlanta United 2’s first chance in the 8th minute when a cut-back pass found him near the six yard box was met with a sliding block by Schinieder Mimy that broke up the play and then led to the ball being cleared.

New England Revolution II got lucky in the 20th minute when a back-pass by defender Gabe Dahlin was mis-controlled by goalkeeper Donovan Parisian and luckily struck the post and was cleared.

In the 22nd minute, Revolution II forward Jayden Da was issued a yellow card for an off-ball foul on Matthew Senanou.

Entering the 24th minute, Atlanta United 2 took the lead.

Following an effort towards goal by forward Cameron Dunbar, the initial shot was saved by goalkeeper Donovan Parisian, bounced in the area & deflected off of forward Liam Butts & defender Schinieder Mimy, was headed by Butts, struck the bar, and then deflected off of Donovan Parisian and into the net to make it 1-0 to Atlanta United 2.

Cristiano Oliveira had the next chance for New England in the 29th minute when his effort towards goal was deflected and claimed by goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom.

New England’s best chance of the half came in the 34th minute when forward Cristiano Oliveira drove down the right flank and unleashed a rocket of a shot that struck the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.

Just three minutes later, Atlanta had a chance on a corner kick when the delivery by forward Cameron Dunbar was headed away by New England and then deflected away again for another corner by defender Damario McIntosh. The following corner came to nothing.

New England had yet another opportunity in the 40th minute when a cross-field pass by forward Myles Morgan found forward Cristiano Oliveira and his effort was saved by Jonathan Ransom.

Atlanta should have added another goal in the 45+1 minute when a service into the area by forward iam Butts was sent over the bar by forward Cameron Dunbar.

After the initial 45+2 minutes, the match entered halftime with Atlanta United 2 ahead 1-0.

The second half began with Atlanta United 2 starting from the center circle as they elected to build through the midfield before it was quickly intercepted by New England and sent the other way.

New England had the first chance of the second half when a delivery sent into the area by Schinieder Mimy was met with a headed effort by Jayden Da that was saved over the bar by goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom in the 50th minute.

Eric Klein had a chance of his own in the 53rd minute when his shot towards goal was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom.

In the 57th minute, Atlanta United 2 head coach Jose Silva made his first change of the match by replacing Santiago Pita with Moises Tablante.

In the 64th minute, Revolution II winger Cristiano Oliveira was issued a yellow card.

Atlanta’s next chance came in the 65th minute when a long distant effort towards goal by Seyi Fakiyesi was saved by goalkeeper Donovan Parisian.

Less than a minute later, Revolution II head coach Pablo Moreira made his first change of the match by replacing midfielder Allan Oyirwoth with midfielder Carlos Zambrano.

Jayden Da had another chance to get on the scoresheet in the 68th minute when his effort was blocked away by defender.

Entering the 70th minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Midfielder Carlos Zambrano drove into the box, the ball was deflected and fell kindly for Cristiano Oliveira, who then sent a beautiful ball to the back post to find Myles Morgan for the tap-in finish to level it at 1-1.

New England’s next chance came in the 75th minute when a header towards goal by Jayden Da went just wide of the net.

Less than 3 minutes later, goalkeeper Jonathan Ransom made a spectacular save to deny Jayden Da on the left flank.

In the 80th minute, Atlanta United 2 head coach Jose Silva made his second & third change of the match by replacing Ignacio Suarez-Couri & Arif Kovac with Enzo Dovio & Liam Butts.

Just 3 minutes later, in the 83rd minute, both teams made changes. Revolution II head coach Pablo Moreira made his second change of the match by replacing Myles Morgan with Judah Siqueira. Atlanta United 2 head coach Jose Silva made his fourth and final change of the match by replacing Daniel Chica with David Siberian.

Jayden Da had a massive chance in the 85th minute when his headed effort from a Revolution corner kick went just over the bar.

Atlanta United 2 had the final chance of the half when a freekick opportunity in the 90+3 minute was sent into the area by Cameron Dunbar and was easily cleared by New England.

In the 90+4 minute, Revolution defender Chris Mbaï-Assem was issued a yellow card for an off-ball foul on Cameron Dunbar.

After the 90+5 minutes, the match concluded in a 1-1 draw.

Penalties would be used to determine which team left with an extra point.

The Revolution’s first penalty kick taker was Jayden Da. His right footed shot was converted into the bottom right of the net to give New England the 1-0 lead.

Atlanta United 2’s first penalty kick taker was Cameron Dunbar. His right footed shot was converted in the middle right of the goal to level the scoreline at 1-1.

The Revolution’s second penalty kick taker was Eric Klein. His right footed shot was finished in the bottom right corner to give New England the 2-1 lead.

Atlanta United 2’s second penalty kick taker was Arif Kovac. His right footed shot was buried into the bottom right corner to level the scoreline at 2-2

The Revolution’s third penalty kick taker was Javaun Mussenden. His right footed shot was scored in the bottom left of the net to give New England the 3-2 lead.

Atlanta United 2’s third penalty kick taker was Oluwaseyitan Fakiyesi. His left footed shot was saved in the bottom right corner by Donovan Parisian to keep New England ahead with a 3-2 lead.

The Revolution’s fourth penalty kick taker was Carlos Zambrano. His right footed shot went into the bottom right corner to give New England a 4-2 advantage.

Atlanta United 2’s fourth penalty kick taker was Moises Tablante. His left footed shot was saved in the bottom right corner by Donovan Parisian to give New England the 4-2 victory in penalties.
