10-men Huntsville City FC defeat Revolution II 2-1

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (4-2-9, 16 pts.) were defeated 2-1 versus Huntsville City FC (3-4-9, 13 pts.) on Wednesday morning.

The match kicked off at 11:00 a.m. ET. at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The team started their lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with goalkeeper JD Gunn starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi, (center backs) Giovanni Calderón and Santiago Suarez, along with (right back) Damario McIntosh. The defensive midfield consisted of Lucas Maciel (left), and Eric Klein (right). The midfield roles were manned by Malcolm Fry (left), Olger Escobar (central) and Alex Monis (right). Patrick Leal began the match as the lone striker.

First team players Santiago Suarez and Malcolm Fry started the match while Joshua Bolma began the match on the bench.

The match kicked off with Huntsville City starting from the center circle and quickly advancing the ball into the New England defensive third.

New England had the first moment of the match when Malcolm Fry took on two defenders and managed to win a corner kick. The ensuing delivery was met with a header by Alex Monis that went just wide of the goal.

In the 8th minute, Huntsville City defender #56 Will Perkins was issued a yellow card.

Huntsville had a major chance in the 12th minute when a chance was cleared off the line by Santiago Suarez.

New England’s next chance came in the 19th minute when Malcolm Fry’s effort in the box was met with a save by goalkeeper #39 Bryan Dowd.

Another corner kick chance came in the 25th minute when Eric Kleins’ headed effort was punched away by goalkeeper #39 Bryan Dowd.

Entering the 32nd minute, Huntsville City took the lead.

The ball fell down to the feet of defender #13 Joey Skinner, who sent a ball into the area that was trapped down by forward #28 Woobens Pacius. His close-range effort was met with a save by JD Gunn, however, the ball fell kindly for midfielder #17 Jonathan Bolanos for the right-footed volley into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Less than 5 minutes later, entering the 37th minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Midfielder Lucas Maciel played a through-ball to Eric Klein who then managed to square pass back to Patrick Leal for the simple finish to level the scoreline at 1-1.

In the 42nd minute, Revolution midfielder Olger Escobar was issued a yellow card.

After the initial 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 1-1.

The second half began with New England starting from the center circle and building out of the back rather than sending the ball into Huntsville City FC’s defensive third.

Just one minute into the second half, in the 46th minute, Huntsville City regained the lead.

After receiving a ball on the right flank, midfielder #30 Jordan Knight sent a cross into the area to find forward #28 Woobens Pacius for the close-range finish.

In the 50th minute, Revolution defender Damario McIntosh was issued a yellow card.

Less than two minutes later, Huntsville City midfielder #32 Ethan O’Brien was issued two yellow cards. He was initially given a yellow card for the challenge and then was given a card due to dissent. Due to the decision, Huntsville City would play the remaining 38 minutes with 10-men.

In the 55th minute, Revolution midfielder Alex Monis was issued a yellow card.

Just 3 minutes later, in the 58th minute, Huntsville City interim head coach Christophe Berra made his first change of the match by replacing midfielder #30 Jordan Knight with midfielder #10 Oliver Wright.

In the 61st minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his first two changes by replacing Malcolm Fry and Olger Escobar with Joshua Bolma and Andrej Bjelajac.

New England’s next chance came in the 64th minute when Alex Monis’ effort was caught comfortably by goalkeeper #39 Bryan Dowd.

As the match entered the 68th minute, Huntsville City interim head coach Christophe Berra made his second and third changes of the match by replacing forward #28 Woobens Pacius and midfielder #40 Faiz Opende with forward #77 Adem Sipic and defender #3 Tomas Ritondale.

In the 73rd minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his third and fourth changes of the match by replacing Patrick Leal and DaMario McIntosh with Liam Butts and Gevork Diarbian.

Less than one minute later, Huntsville City interim head coach Christophe Berra made his final change of the match by replacing midfielder #17 Jonathan Bolanos with midfielder #2 Chris Applewhite.

Huntsville had another chance in the 82nd minute when defender #56 Will Perkins’ effort struck the side netting.

They had another chance entering the 89th minute when forward #77 Adem Sipic’s effort was saved out for a corner kick by JD Gunn.

New England’s last opportunity came in the 93rd minute when Joshua Bolma’s close-range effort was comfortably saved by goalkeeper #39 Bryan Dowd.

After the 90+5 minutes, Huntsville City held on for the 2-1 victory.

With the result, New England remain in 12th in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings. They have the T-10th worst record in the league (29 teams in MLS NEXT Pro).

Richie Williams and the New England Revolution II (4-2-9, 16 pts.) are on the road to face Eastern Conference side Chicago FC United (7-6-3, 32 pts.).
