Poole Pirates maintained their one hundred per cent record this season at Wimborne Road after completing a  58-32 victory over the visiting Newcastle Diamonds on Wednesday.

Despite the visitors taking the opening heat with a race victory from Kyle Howarth, Pirates compiled eight  5-1 maximum heat advantages to run out comfortable winners.

It took the home side three heats to compile their first 5-1 of the night when Ben Cook teamed up with Steve Worrall to give Pirates the lead for the first time in the meeting.

Heat four saw another 5-1 to the home side, albeit with a little bit of luck when Diamonds Paul Starke’s bike packed up and George Congreve fell on the penultimate lap. The reserve Congreve managed to get up and re-mount to complete the race and pick up a solitary point.

Diamonds riders were having bike problems all through the night with Matthew Wethers bike packing up in heat five.

In the next heat, it was a one-two to Poole with Danny King taking the chequered flag and Zach Cook coming in second.

The visitors’ team manager Rob grant elected to use a tactical substitute in heat eight by replacing Max Clegg with Howarth. The gamble paid off with Howarth finishing second behind heat winner James Wright for the Diamonds first 5-1 of the evening.

In between two shared heats, Pirates picked up another heat maximum, compliments of Worrall and Ben Cook for Pirate’s number three Worrall’s third win a row.

The visitors picked up their second maximum of the evening in heat eleven with Howarth finishing ahead of Wethers.

In the next heat, Kemp replaced fellow reserve rider Ablitt and along with his partner Worrall compiled another maximum heat advantage, with Worrall dropping his first points of the night.

There was still time for Poole to finish the meeting in style with three maximum 5-1’s in the final three heats to wrap up a comprehensive win.

Pirates captain Danny King led the way with a paid 14 points from five rides with Steve Worrall dropping just one point on the night to finish with 13+2. From reserve, it was another good night’s work from Drew Kemp who picked up 9+1 from five rides.
