After a two-month absence, we will get to see action once more from the most talented drivers in the world as Formula 2 travels to the streets of Monaco.

Circuit de Monaco holds a special place in everyone’s hearts as one of the most prestigious races on any calendar, and F2 will be glad that they are able to race around the track this weekend.

Heading into the second round of the Championship, UNI-Virtuosi’s Guanyu Zhou holds an 11-point lead ahead of rookie Liam Lawson as the Chinese driver impressed at Bahrain with one pole position and two podiums to his name.

In race one, the Kiwi was able to hold onto top spot on the podium as he held fellow Red Bull Academy driver Jehan Daruvala to secure his maiden victory in F2. Another rookie in David Beckmann completed the top three showing that the first-year drivers will bring it to the rest of the experience on the grid.

The second sprint race saw another rookie victorious. This time it was Prema’s Oscar Piastri who took maximum points ahead of Christian Lundgaard in second and Zhou in third.

Zhou was victorious in the final race of the weekend as the hour-long Feature Race was won by the Chinese driver. The UNI-Virtuosi man finished ahead of Dan Ticktum in second and Liam Lawson who made it two podiums in his first three races in the F2 Championship.

Qualifying will be done in two groups, Group A and Group B, to avoid mayhem on the very narrow track and most importantly to avoid any collisions from happening.

In 2019, the groups were decided by the car numbers which meant that Group A would have all the odd-numbered cars and Group B would have all the even-numbered cars.

Nyck de Vries put his ART on pole position and he converted that into a race victory as the Dutchman did not give up his lead and took home maximum points after 40 laps.

Japan’s Nobuharu Matsushita finished second ahead of the DAMS of Sergio Sette Camera who finished the Feature Race in third.

Anthoine Hubert won the Sprint Race ahead of Carlin’s Louis Deletraz in second and UNI-Virtuosi’s Guanyu Zhou who finished third.

With this year’s new format it means that finishing inside the top 10 in qualifying and all three races will be key in scoring a healthy amount of points for the Championship.

Free Practice and Qualifying will take place on Thursday with the first Sprint Race on Friday. The second Sprint Race will take place on Saturday morning and the Feature Race will round off a weekend full of F2 action on Saturday evening after F1 Qualifying.

A weekend full of action is in store but will Zhou hold onto his Championship lead or will we see a new leader at the front of the pack as F2 head into their second weekend of the season.
