The Sky Blues confirmed their place in the Championship for the 2021/22 season after other results at the bottom of the table went their way.

Saturday afternoon’s game was a frustrating affair for the West Midlands outfit, who struggled to create many chances against a Preston side who battled their way past the hosts to a 1-0 win.

Coventry City only managed one shot on target out of the 10 efforts they had throughout the whole 90 minutes, lacking a cutting edge in a frustrating encounter for them.

The game contained almost no chances at all, with the only goal of the game coming from the penalty spot courtesy of Alan Browne.

The penalty was given after a shocking piece of misjudgement from goalkeeper Ben Wilson, as the ball bounced over his head and he was left with no choice but to clear out the on-rushing Ched Evans.

The hosts however will be happy after the game, as a loss for Derby against Birmingham means that they can no longer be relegated from the Championship and will be in the second division for yet another year.

One player for Coventry who showed real fight and passion after he came off the bench on Saturday was Fankaty Dabo, who crunched into challenges left, right and centre before getting into a tussle after 10 minutes on the pitch, getting booked for his actions.

Dabo spoke after the game about the joys of returning to The Championship:

“It is massive, before the season we wanted to achieve Championship football and this is everything, we can now do another season in the Championship and hopefully many more.

“You have your little thoughts when the games don’t go well but we have always believed and we always knew that we wouldn’t get relegated, there was always the talk of when we will stay up not if we will stay up.

Coventry in the second division is huge for the Sky Blues as Mark Robins can look to add to his side in the summer and rise up the table next season.
