FC Halifax Town have strengthened their bid for the play-offs in the National League, with the signing of Huddersfield Town striker Michah Obiero on a loan deal until the end of the season.

While the signing has gone under the radar as the National League reaches crunch time, the addition could prove to be a real masterstroke for Pete Wild’s side with the young Huddersfield attacker bolstering their attacking options as they look to finish in the top seven.

Coming through the youth ranks at the Terriers, Obiero spent the first half of the season on loan, with League Two outfit Carlisle United before returning to his parent club in January where he has since been appearing frequently for the B team.

A striker who boasts pace and is also good in the air, the capture of Obiero is a real coup for Halifax who used their location to their advantage to persuade Huddersfield to part ways temporarily with the youngster they highly regard.

A shadow striker who is happy to play in a two-man attack, the 20-year-old made his senior debut for Huddersfield in the final game of last season, appearing off the bench in the defeat against Millwall.

When you combine that with the experience he has obtained in the first half of the campaign with Carlisle, you have a player who will be more than capable of making an impact for Halifax.

The National League run-in is very much in full swing, with Pete Wild hoping to guide his Halifax team to the play-offs for the second consecutive campaign.

The addition of Obiero will only boost their chances of finishing in the top seven, with an almighty battle currently ensuing for the coveted spots which would offer the team another opportunity to reach the Football League for the first time.

Another positive Halifax will discover in the young forward is that he will have no difficulties adapting to the physical demands of the National League, with the London-born striker having learned the ropes recently under Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan, who has brought the renowned “Murderball” to the Terriers setup, which is known for being physically challenging and improving players physical attributes.

If Obiero can settle quickly with his new team, he could be instrumental for FC Halifax as they continue their hunt in playing in the Football League.

As the 20-year-old has an undoubted pedigree and can use this loan to demonstrate his qualities to his parent team, who will be keeping a close eye on him throughout the loan spell, which serves until the end of the campaign.

So while it will only be revealed over the coming weeks how much of an impact Obiero can have at the Shay, his addition to an already strong squad could prove to be a real masterstroke from Pete Wild in his attempt to guide FC Halifax Town to the Football League for the first time in their 13-year existence.
