Queens Park Rangers claim their first win of 2021, as they end a run of 10 games without a win as they confidently swept Luton Town aside at Kenilworth Road.

Mark Warburton’s side took the lead in the first half through debuting Charlie Austin, who re-joined the club on Saturday from West Brom on a season-long loan. This is the second time that Charlie Austin has scored on his debut for the Rs after his previous stint with the club between 2013-16.

Rangers were able to double their lead confirming the win in the dying embers of the game as Macauley Bonne was found by Albert Adomah in the middle of the box, leaving the Zimbabwe international enough time to cooly slot his side-footed shot into the bottom right-hand corner of Simon Sluga’s net.

It was the visitors who started the game brightest as Osayi-Samuel charged at the Luton defence after picking up the ball nearly in his own half before unleashing a powerful effort which was slapped away by Sluga, this early chance seemed to set the tone for the game.

Austin had an early sighter in the opening stages, as he directed a glancing header which was easily collected by Sluga at his near post. Just moments later Rangers could have taken the lead as Lyndon Dykes was sent through on goal by strike partner Austin just for the Scotland international to strike the legs for Sluga.

Rangers deservedly lead in the 38th minute though Austin who found himself with space after excellent movement by the former Southampton man. A corner was floated towards the near-post by Ilias Chair, which was flicked on by Cameron as Austin nodded home from inside the 6-yeard box.

The Hatters came out in the second half with fire in their belly and their best chance came in the early stages of the second half courtesy of a bit luck, Tom Carroll lashed a pass towards Austin which was deflected right into the path of James Collins. The forward wasted their best chance of the game as he placed his shot well wide on his left foot.

Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu was inches away from an equaliser when he looked to pick out the top right-hand corner with his curling effort from the edge of the box, he admired his shot as it clipped the bar as his effort went behind for a goal kick.

QPR defender Rob Dickie could have sealed the victory for the West London club, the Englishman rose highest thumping his header millimetres over from yet another dangerous corner. The R’s sealed all three points to take back to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium when Albert Adomah picked out fellow substitute Macauley Bonne to put Rangers two goals to the good.

This result means that QPR moves up to 18th in the Championship on 24pts, they will host bottom of the table Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday in their next game. Luton remain in 14th position on 30pts, Nathan Jones’ team face a tough trip to Bournemouth at the weekend.
