EFL League 2 Round-Up: Sol Campbell suffers first league setback

Colchester United 1 : 0 Macclesfield Town 

Colchester United’s Michael Mandron scored the only goal as the Us defeated Macclesfield Town in Sol Campbell’s first league outing as manager of the Silkmen.

Campbell said after the game that he was encouraged by his side’s performance despite losing the game. Colchester’s win cemented a two point gap for John McGreal’s side over Bury who themselves saw off Exeter City 2-0 at Gigg Lane. 

League leaders MK Dons defeated Carlisle United 2-0 whilst Danny Cowley’s Lincoln City extended their unbeaten run to four games as they overcame Stevenage 1-0. Mansfield Town extended their unbeaten run to 13 games as they saw off Notts County 2-0 at the One Call Stadium 

At the bottom end of the table, Cheltenham Town managed a 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Grimsby Town whilst Cambridge United suffered a 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

Yeovil Town suffered a 2-1 defeat to play-off pushing Forest Green Rovers whilst Newport County suffered a set-back as they lost 2-1 at Swindon Town. Morecambe managed to get a point as they drew 2-2 with Port Vale.

To conclude, Oldham Athletic were 2-0 winners at Crewe Alexandra thanks to strikes from Peter Clarke and Chris O’Grady whilst Northampton Town defeated Crawley Town 1-0 courtesy of a Kevin Van Veen free-kick.
