Spurs face tough Molineux test on tired legs

Tottenham prepare to face their third game in six days as they visit Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening. The spirits within the Spurs camp are sure to have been lifted by their midweek derby win over West Ham in the League Cup which saw Heung-Min Son score his first goals of the 2018/19 season.

Wolves, however come into the fixture on the back of consecutive defeats and will be hoping to take advantage of their freshness to propel them to a victory which could see them finish the weekend as high as eighth.

There has only been eight meetings in the Premier League between the two sides, with the North London club claiming four victories to Wolves’ two. On their last visit to the West Midlands, goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe set them on their to a comfortable 2-0 victory.

A similar result on Saturday evening could see Spurs climb back into the top four as they hope to put even more pressure on their rivals Arsenal drop points in their tough home fixture against Liverpool.

Tottenham have been handed several injury boosts in recent weeks with Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele all in contention for starts.  Mauricio Pochettino still has four first-team players on the sidelines, however with Eric Died (thigh), Jan Vertonghen (hamstring), Danny Rose (groin) and Victor Wanyama (knee).

The returns will cause a key attacking player to be forced to sit on the bench as Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura, Son, Eriksen and Alli all battle it out for one of the three spots in behind Harry Kane.

The England striker has a fantastic record against newly-promoted sides, scoring a Premier League high 25 goals since the start of the 2013/14 season.

The excitement around the Wanderers has dwindled due to back to back defeats, but with eight of their nine league goals so far coming in the second half they will be optimistic they can take advantage of Tottenham’s tired legs.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been reluctant to rotate what he believes to be his strongest eleven with the Portuguese manager naming unchanged starting lineups for the first seven Premier League matches.  The former Porto man will also be helped by having no major injuries to his squad, who will be hoping his side can get their first win over Spurs since a 1-0 victory at Molineux back in 2010.

Prediction: Tottenham may struggle in the latter stages of this one due to fatigue so will want to kill the game off early. Wolves have enough quality to trouble an at times shaky Tottenham back four and have already taken points against both the Manchester clubs this season so we are sure to be in for a tight encounter.
