Revolution II secure first win of the season over FC Cincinnati 2

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (1-1-0, 5 pts) were victorious 2-0 over FC Cincinnati 2 (0-1-1, 1 pts) on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 5:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.

The match kicked off with Cincinnati II starting from the center circle and immediately building out of the back to begin the match.

New England’s first chance of the match came in the 3rd minute when Gevork Diarbian’s right-footed effort was blocked by a diving FC Cincinnati II defender.

New England’s next chance came entering the 11th minute when a cross by Damario McIntosh was deflected away for a corner kick. The ensuing corner kick led to nothing.

Allan Oyirwoth then had a massive chance when his right-footed curler went just over the bar in the 19th minute.

New England’s next opportunity came in the 27th minute when a free kick taken by Marcos Dias was met with a spectacular diving save by Cincinnati 2 goalkeeper Paul Walters..

FC Cincinnati 2’s first chance came in the 28th minute when a shot by Kenji Mboma Dem was met with an awkward save by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 30th minute, Revolution II defender Hesron Barry was issued a yellow card.

Alex Monis then had an opportunity of his own to break the deadlock int he 35th minute but his effort was blocked and save by goalkeeper Paul Walters.

In the 36th minute, FC Cincinnati 2 midfielder Dilan Hurtado was issued a yellow card.

FC Cincinnati 2’s next chance came in the 38th minute when a header by Kenji Mboma Dem’s header was met with a hand-save over the bar by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

New England had yet another opportunity when Marcos Dias’ effort in the 40th minute was met with an easy save by Paul Walters.

After the initial 45+1 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 0-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his first change of the match by replacing Hesron Barry with Gabriel Dahlin.

The second half began with New England starting from the center circle and swiftly advancing the ball into the Cincinnati II defensive third.

New England’s first chance of the half came in the 49th minute when Gevork Diarbian’s low-driven cross went through the goal-mouth untouched.

Marcos Dias’ had a chance of his own in the 54th minute when he received a cut-back pass from Damario McIntosh, however, his effort went high and wide over the net.

In the 61st minute, Cincinnati 2 head coach Tyrone Marshall made his first two changes of the match by replacing Nick Hagglund & Dilan Hurtado with Noah Adnan & Ademar Chavez.

Less than two minute later, in the 62nd minute, Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his second & third changes of the match by replacing Allan Oyirwoth & Liam Butts with Cristiano Oliveira & Damorney Hutchinson.

Gevork Diarbian had the next chance entering the 67th minute when his effort went through the legs and was deflected wide by goalkeeper Paul Walters.

FC Cincinnati 2’s first chance of the half came in the 69th minute when an effort by Stefan Chirilă was saved by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 72th minute, both teams made changes. Revolution II head coach Richie Williams made his fourth and fifth changes of the match by replacing Damario McIntosh & Gevork Diarbian with Joe Buck & Olger Escobar. Cincinnati 2 head coach Tyrone Marshall made his third change of the match by replacing Yorkaeff Caicedo with Will Kuisel.

Entering the 73rd minute, New England took the lead.

Midfielder Alex Monis managed to find Forward Damorney Hutchinson on the left flank of the penalty area. After cutting the ball backwards and sending the defender, Hutchinson scored in the middle right of the net past goalkeeper Paul Walters for his first goal as a Revolution player.

Less than 1 minute later, New England added to their lead.

Midfielder Alex Monis managed to find Forward Marcos Dias on the left-flank of the box. Similarly to Hutchinson, Dias’ left-footed shot rocketed into the net to added to New England’s advantage.

In the 76th minute, FC Cincinnati 2 head coach Tyrone made his fourth change of the match by replacing Carson Locker with Xhosa Manyana.

FC Cincinnati 2’s best chance of the half came from a free kick taken by Stefan Chirilă that struck the post. The ball was cleared out for a throw-in by Damorney Hutchinson.

FC Cincinnati 2 had yet another chance from a free kick, again taken by Stefan Chirilă, this time in the 87th minute, that was met with a diving parry save by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 90+2 minute, FC Cincinnati 2 midfielder Kenji Mboma Dem was issued a yellow card.

After the 90+4 minutes, the match concluded with New England holding on for a 2-0 victory.

With the result, New England move to in 1st in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings.

Richie Williams and the New England Revolution II (1-1-0, 5 pts.) remain home to face Eastern Conference side Toronto FC II (0-0-1, 1 pts.). The match will kick off at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts at 3:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 28th.
