Paraguay eliminates Germany on penalties

FOXBOROUGH, MA–Paraguay stunned Germany on penalties as they advanced to the Round of 16–something Germany has not done since winning the Cup in 2014. Paraguay opened the scoring with an early goal from Julio Enciso in the 42^nd minute, Kai Havertz equalized in the 54th minute.

Germany thought they have headed in a winner in the 102nd minute though Jonathan Tah, but VAR detected a foul by Waldemar Anton on goalkeeper Orlando Gill disallowing the goal.

Thus, the match went to the infamous penalty kicks, with Paraguay advancing to the next round of 16.
