Red Bull New York 2-0 Inter Miami
HARRISON, NJ–RBNY flew out the blocks early on in this match when Cade Cowell raced down the line and hit a cross in towards Julian Hall, the 18 year old striker just put his effort wide of the post, but this was an early warning sign to Inter Miami.
With seven minutes on the clock, Red bulls took the lead. It was a fantastic move from the hosts, Mohamed Sofo slipped in Cade Cowell, who drilled another cross into the area that deflected in off a helpless Casemiro.
Michael Bradley’s side should have doubled their lead shortly after. It was Cowell at the centre of everything and he was in once again, he sat down the keeper and clipped the ball in towards Hall who just had to head into an empty net. He got it all wrong however, and headed way above the crossbar.
Red Bulls came so close to a second once again, some poor control from Riquelme allowed Ruvalcaba to get a shot away just outside the penalty area, his effort whistled just past the post almost nestling into the bottom right corner.
More and more phenomenal football being played by RBNY led to another chance just before half time. Cowell sent in another cross in aim of Ruvalcaba who attempted a backheel flick which just missed the bottom left corner.
Halfway through the second half, Ruvalcaba had a huge chance to put his side two up. The ball was bundled through to him by some play by Donkor and all the Mexican winger had to do was hit the corners. his effort was straight at Dayne St. Clair who got down to deny the 25 year old.
It would not be ridiculous to say Ruvalcaba should have had a hat trick. The forward had another golden chance when Nealis intercepted and put Red bulls in a four on two scenario. He shifts it through to Ruvalcaba who hits a first-time effort towards goal which is turned behind by St. Clair.
A huge chance went begging for Inter Miami when some good link up play between Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez eventually fell the way of Sergio Reguilon who drilled a low effort across which goal which just went past the bottom right corner.
A big opportunity fell the way of Segovia for Inter Miami. Morales slipped in behind and forced a good save out of Horvath only for the rebound to fall perfectly for Segovia, the Venezuela international blasted an effort towards goal which came back off the crossbar.
Red Bulls would eventually find their second. Donkor won a ball in Miami’s half and played it through to Harper, who had all the time in the world to just play it across to Emil Forsberg who tapped in from close range.
It was a fifth clean sheet of the season for Ethan Horvath as Michael Bradley’s side registered an important 2-0 victory that keeps them just about in the playoff places.
New York will now make the trip to face off against New England Revolution on Wednesday, October 28.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on Apple TV in English and Spanish.
