Huge match for Wales!

A Wales youth choir, brass band, official anthem singer Dafydd Iwan and football fans joined in rallying song at the iconic bucket hat sculpture in Doah ahead of Wales v Iran.

In the hours before Wales’ second game versus Iran on Friday 25^th November, three icons of Wales – Wales youth choir the Urdd, Wales’ supporters’ brass band The Barry Horns and Dafydd Iwan who sings the official song of Wales’tournament joined voices with fans who had travelled to Qatar in a rallying cry to support the nation.

The group of passionate voices came together as part of Team Wales 2022 and the performance took take place at Wales’ eye-catching bucket hat installation at the heart of one of the fan areas in Doha.

Wales Cultural Ambassadors were are also available for interview on the day, including Colin Jackson, former sprint and hurdling athlete who represented Great Britain and Wales and Laura McCallister, Cardiff University Professor and expert on gender and policy in football.

Having come from behind to draw their first FIFA World Cup match for 64 years, 1-1 against the USA, Wales return to the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium to take on an IR Iran side eager to bounce back from their 6-2 defeat against England.

That draw was their fourth in six FIFA World Cup matches for Wales. In scoring the equaliser from the penalty spot against the USA, Gareth Bale became the fourth Welshman to find the net at the FIFA World Cup finals.

IR Iran, competing at their sixth FIFA World Cup, are looking for their first win against European opposition in the competition. Mehdi Taremi’s two goals against England made him the first Iranian player to score more than once at the finals. Key facts

Wales are unbeaten in their last ten World Cup qualifying and final competition matches (W6 D4).

In their opening match, Gareth Bale joined Chris Gunter as Wales’s all-time record appearance-maker on 109 international caps.

IR Iran have lost their first two matches in only one of their previous five FIFA World Cup appearances; the sole occasion was 2006.

Ehsan Hajisafi and Alireza Jahanbakhsh are the all-time leading appearance-makers for IR Iran in World Cup history and they will be looking to add to their seven appearances.
