Fantastic performances against Albania, San Marino and England saw the White and Reds end their September international break unbeaten with two wins and a draw.

Paulo Sousa’s men still occupy third place in Group I, but a huge win against San Marino before their encounter against Albania on Tuesday could go a long way.

The game on Saturday will also be Lukasz Fabianski’s final game for Poland as the goalkeeper announced his retirement from international duties.

Fabianski made his first appearance for the White and Reds back in 2006 and after over 14 years, recording more than 50 caps to his name, the game against San Marino will be his 57th and final one.

Looking at the game between the two sides in more detail, Poland have not had any trouble in brushing San Marino aside.

In their previous encounter against La Serenissima, Sousa’s side fired seven past Elia Benedettini as they cruised to a 7-1 victory.

However, the hosts on the day were able to shock Poland as they managed to score at the beginning of the second half which gave the White and Reds’ defence a bit of a wake-up call.

One man that sprung into action on only his second international appearance was striker Adam Buksa. The forward came on as a substitute and managed to score a hat-trick which proved his goalscoring abilities perfectly.

The PGE Narodowy has been an exceptional fortress for the Poland National Team as they have only been defeated twice at the stadium keeping an unbeaten record since 2014.

Poland’s final match during the September international break came against England at this exact stadium in Warsaw as the White and Reds recorded an impressive draw against the Three Lions.

Gareth Southgate’s men controlled possession as they looked to find a way through but solid defending from Poland’s backline saw them keep England at bay.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 72nd minute as Harry Kane was left in far too much space. The forward’s vicious effort from outside the box beat Wojciech Szczesny and hit the back of the net as England looked to continue their winning run.

Damian Szymanski had other ideas though as Robert Lewandowski’s delivery was met by the midfielder who equalised in added time.

England looked devastated and broken after the draw as they took it as if it was a defeat. Poland, on the other hand, were celebrating a fantastic result against a tough opposition after a tough period they endured at EURO 2020 and at the beginning of the World Cup Qualifiers.

In San Marino’s final game of the September international break, they were beaten and dominated by Albania as the Eagles cruised to a 5-0 win.

Rey Manaj’s goal on the half-hour mark gave Albania the lead with the score staying the same at the half-time interval.

The second half saw an avalanche of goals scored as Qazim Laci, Armando Broja, Elseid Hysaj and Myrto Uzuni all got on the scoresheet to complete a dominant performance from the hosts.

Poland will certainly take confidence from their previous encounter against San Marino and the home crowd at the PGE Narodowy will spur them on from minute one.

If the White and Reds defeat their opponents this weekend and Albania either draw or lose against Hungary, it will allow Poland to move up to second place in Group I for the first time since matchday one.
