England started Day Two strongly but it was India who ended the day the stronger thanks to a 100-run partnership between Rishabh Pant 101 and Washington Sundar 61* but the hosts firmly in control of the Test.
Virat Kohli’s side began the day 24-1 but were soon in trouble, slipping to 40-3 with Pujara and Kohli both falling in the opening session both Jack Leach and Ben Stokes respectively.
Rohit Sharma 49 and Ajinkya Rahane 27 then shared a stand of 39 for the fourth wicket before the Indian Vice captain, Rahane was dismissed by Anderson just before lunch to leave the home side 80-4.
Sharma was joined by the brilliant Pant and the paid added a further 41 for the fifth wicket before Stokes got the wicket of the opener LBW.
Ravi Ashwin was given out early in his innings but he was saved on review before falling for 13 to leave his side struggling at 146-6.
However, Pant and Sundar responded brilliantly, attacking the England’ attack to really put the pressure on Joe Root’s men scoring 113 in just 26 to take the game away from England and put themselves into a commanding position.
Sundar was joined by Axar Patel 11* for the final ten overs and the duo guided Kohli’s men to a strong position of 294-7 at the close, a lead of 89 runs going into the third day as they look to pile further misery on Root’s side who looked really flat and dejected in the final session.
England will be desperate to make early inroads in the morning session as they look to try and get a glimpse of getting back into the game with the series on the line.
