After a dismal defeat against Huddersfield at the weekend, Swansea will be looking to get back to winning ways against a Coventry side who won their first game in five against promotion hunting Brentford.
Swansea will want to forget their most recent league match in a hurry after they fell to a 4-1 defeat against a struggling Huddersfield. The Welsh side, who were unbeaten in 2021 before the match were hammered by the Terriers, who hadn’t won at match in the New Year.
The Swans watched their nine-game unbeaten league run come to an end as they failed to provide an answer for Huddersfield’s attacking threat and were punished by goals from Fraizer Campbell, Lewis O’Brien and a stunning brace from USA international Duane Holmes.
Manager Steve Cooper made all five substitutes by the 58th minute in a bid to give game-time to some players, especially new signings Jordan Morris and Morgan Whittaker. Unfortunately, for Cooper, Morris picked up an injury just minutes after his introduction and the Swans had to play the best part of half an hour with ten-men.
Swans fans have crying out for changes this week after a tired-looking, similar starting 11 have been underperforming in recent games with Korey Smith looking to come in and solidify the midfield, along with Yan Dhanda to generate that much-needed spark in the final third.
Coventry will be looking at Swansea’s latest result with confidence after achieving a convincing win against an out-of-form Brentford. The Sky Blues never really seemed bothered by Brentford’s attack as their lack of quality chances in the final third was caused by an absent Ivan Toney.
During their impressive win against Brentford, it was Tyler Walker who shined brightest as the 24-year-old netted a brace to bring his tally up to six goals in all competitions this season.
If the Sky Blues want to come away with a result on Wednesday night, they will have to play as well as they did against Brentford, if not better. Coventry’s midfield duo Liam Kelly and Gustavo Hamer played well against the Bees, however, with Kelly only just returning from injury, boss Mark Robins will be tempted to play Premier League winner Matty James to get some fresh legs in the team.
Ex-Swan Viktor Gyokeres failed to open his league account during his loan spell at the Liberty Stadium but the Swede has already got up and running for the visitors and will be looking to haunt his former club.
