It’s all to play for in the second leg of the Round of 32 tie between Leicester City and Slavia Praha. The East Midlands club will look to be on the front foot and make sure to not concede any crucial away goals.
Leicester will be hoping for a better performance than they managed in Prague only a week ago as they drew 0-0 with the Czech Champions at the Eden Stadium.
The goalless draw was probably a fair reflection of the game in the Czech Republic. The first 20 minutes were played at a very fast tempo with both sides having some great chances to take the lead early on.
Marc Albrighton had the first chance of the first-half. Harvey Barnes played the ball into the winger’s feet with his shot wide of the target, but it definitely showed what the East Midlands side came to Prague to do.
Ondřej Kúdela had a fantastic chance to open the scoring for the hosts. A corner was whipped in with the defender waiting at the back post unmarked. His shot was wide of the target and was left in disbelief as to how he was unable to put the ball into the back of the net.
Nicolae Stanciu looked to run the show for Praha, he disrupted ball after ball and had a few chances of his own that gave the Foxes a scare.
The midfielder had a chance from a free-kick which was comfortably saved by Kasper Schmeichel and then also had an effort from outside the box which needed quick reactions from the Danish goalkeeper as the ball looked to loop into the goal.
Kelechi Iheanacho had a few headed chances, and if he had a cleaner connection with the ball on each occasion, they could have been game-deciding. But the Nigerian was unable to do so and the game finished goalless.
The visitors for this encounter saw themselves draw their fourth game of the league season as they travelled to Teplice on Sunday.
Oscar Dorley’s 43rd minute goal put Slavia in front heading into the half-time as they looked to extend their lead at the top of the table.
But Jakub Mares’ equaliser after the break meant that Slavia would only come away from the match with a point, something that would have frustrated them ahead of the second-leg encounter against the Foxes.
Despite the draw in Teplice, Slavia still find a themselves healthy eight points clear of City rivals Sparta the top of the First League.
Leicester go into the Second Leg off the back of a fantastic victory in a Midlands encounter against Aston Villa. James Maddison gave the visitors the lead at Villa Park, calmly slotting the ball beyond Emi Martinez’s reach into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Harvey Barnes doubled that lead four minutes later. Youri Tielemans played Jamie Vardy through with the forward having his shot saved by the Aston Villa goalkeeper, but the shot-stopper spilt the ball and allowed the Leicester winger to smash the ball into the back of the net.
Bertrand Traore gave the Villans some hope in the second-half as he fired in from close range in the 48th minute, but in the end, Brendan Rodgers’ men held on for another valuable three points in their hunt for Champions League football.
The East Midlands side will hope that they can take the win and qualify for the Round of 16 of the competition at their home ground.
But the Czech side will not want to be underestimated and will look to shock Leicester with an early goal and gain that crucial away goal
