Notts County move into the top three following a 3-1 victory over Aldershot Town.

Aldershot opened the scoring after 17 minutes with the first shot of the match. Ethan Chislett’s ball across the six-yard area found the head of Craig Tanner who found the net.

The Magpies almost equalised when Kyle Wootton was one-on-one with Aldershot keeper, Mitch Walker, but his lobbed attempt went wide of the post.

But then County equalised 10 minutes before the break. Cal Roberts picked up the ball and went on a mazy run, he  took a chance which rifled past Walker into the corner.

Aldershot almost went back in front just 45 seconds into the second half, but Lewis Walker missed an easy tap in.

Then came what was a mad minute. Craig Tanner’s ambitious attempt forced Joe McDonnell to tip the ball onto the crossbar. At the other end as a sense of deja vu, Kyle Wootton once again through on goal, he looped the ball over Walker, but he was denied by the underside of the bar.

On the hour mark, Notts County went infront,  Walker faced another one on one sitiuation, this time against Kristian Dennis. Dennis looped the over the head of Walker which found the corner.

Wootton could have scored a hattrick on the night, but it just wasn’t his day. Some great play down the flank resulted in Adam Long crossing the ball to Wootton, but he blasted it over from six yards.

But it paled into insignificance as Notts County wrapped up the win 20 minutes from time. Full back Dion Kelly-Evans precise ball was met by Dennis, who cushioned the header past Walker to make it 3-1.

Dennis could have got a hattrick but his effort was blocked by George Fowler.

That win puts Notts County 3rd. Aldershot remain 17th and remain treading over water.
