Ramos denies being purposely booked

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has denied getting purposefully booked in Madrid’s last 16 clash with Ajax in the Champions League.

The Spanish international received a yellow card for a foul on Kasper Dolberg in the 89th minute of their first leg clash with the Dutch outfit and will miss the second leg on March 5.

A suspension at this stage of the competition lessens the risk of Ramos being banned in the upcoming rounds.

In his post match interview Ramos hinted that the booking he received was on purpose saying he would “be lying if I didn’t force [the booking]”

However, Real’s club captain took to Twitter to deny the claims that he manipulated the rules around suspensions:

“I want to make clear that it hurts me more than anyone, I have not forced the card, as I did not against Roma in my previous game.

“I will support from the stands as a fan more with the illusions of being in quarters.”

The current holders of the title defeated Ajax 2-1 at the Amsterdam ArenA as Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio found the net either side of a Hakim Ziyech strike.
