Player Scores Twice Directly from Corners

Coleraine’s Paul Owens entered the footballing history books by scoring two goals direct from corners.

His side beat Glenavon 3-1 but very strong winds in Northern Ireland allowed him to torture Glenavon keeper David O’Hare from the right wing corner flag.

Owens seemd to have had utilising the conditions in mind right from the very restart. The second half was only one minute old when he scored the first before repeating the trick 18 minutes later.

Indeed O’Hare had to be alert on a third occasion to prevent Owens’ hat trick.

See the goals on the BBC website followed by an almost completely impenetrable interview with the goalscorer.

Coleraine stay fourth and Glenavon stay bottom but are now two points adrift of Carrick who surprisingly held fifth place Glentoran to a 2-2 draw.
