France take on Germany on Tuesday evening as Didier Deschamps’ side look to start their Euro 2020 campaign with a win.

Both sides will be looking to get off to a good start in what is a tough group but France will be confident that they can get off to a positive start and build on their World Cup win from 2018.

Les Bleus come into this game unbeaten in competitive fixtures since June 2019 where they fell to a 2-0 loss away at Turkey during qualifying and will be brimming with confidence, especially with the return of Real Madrid hitman Karim Benzema.

France will be looking to lean on the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Antonie Griezmann and Paul Pogba to get a result with all three players being crucial to the side during their World Cup win.

Team news

Deschamps only real injury concern is that of Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma but he was not expected to start even he was fit for this game.

Raphael Varane looks fit and ready to go and he is expected to partner PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe in the heart of defence.

Deschamps is wary of the attacking threat that Germany carry.

“There is individual quality in each position but the players can play in very different positions, they can be flexible, which is difficult to play against,” Deschamps told a news conference on Monday.

“There are players like (Timo) Werner or (Leroy) Sane who have a very different playing style and tomorrow we will see who is playing in attack for Germany.

“Their attackers are important for the German team, and we have to try stop them having an impact on the game and how successful we are depends how we move and are positioned on the pitch.”

Head-to-head

These two sides have met eight times over the past nine years with France coming away with four wins, Germany picking up two wins and two draws.

The last meeting came in the UEFA Nations League where France ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Antoine Griezmann.
