The Stags travel to the New Lawn and face a high-flying Forest Green that have only lost twice in the league and sit third in League Two.
Mansfield Town are unbeaten in four games (two wins and two draws) and look a completely new team since Graham Coughlan departed about three weeks ago.
They’ve appointed a new manager in Nigel Clough and he was able to get a win in his first game in charge at the Sands Venue Stadium as the Stags lifted themselves off the bottom of Group E in the Papa John’s Trophy as they beat Scunthorpe United 2-1.
Ryan Sweeney came close in the 17th minute after a corner the ball fell nicely onto Sweeney’s head, but Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Rory Watson saved the header acrobatically and tipped it over the bar.
Not long after, Kevin van Veen struck a fantastic free-kick from just outside the box, but his shot bounced off the top of the crossbar and out of play.
The Stags took the lead in the 34th minute and it was Sweeney in the midst of the action again. Sinclair’s corner was cleared away only as far as the midfielder and with the second attempt he picked out Sweeney as the defender headed it into the back of the Scunthorpe goal.
Mansfield carried on the pressure and ten minutes later were two goals to the good. Jamie Reid opened his account as the striker had an easy finish after a rebound.
Olufela Olomola scored a screamer for the Irons with around ten minutes to go but the amber and blues were able to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time in a calendar year.
This weekend’s opponents, Forest Green Rovers, have been beaten twice in the space of four days. Firstly, they were demolished 6-2 at Sincil Bank by Lincoln City in the first round of the FA Cup.
Jorge Grant’s seven-minute brace put the Imps into a 2-0 lead after 24 minutes. Brennan Johnson added a third just after the hour mark. Anthony Scully put Lincoln into a 4-0 lead with ten minutes to go as Elliott Whitehouse got a consolation goal for the Rovers four minutes after Scully’s goal.
Scully netted his second in the 88th minute of the game for 5-1 and James Jones added a sixth for Lincoln. Jake Young gave another worthless goal for Forest Green in the 94th minute as they were beaten heavily by the League One high-flyers.
A tightly contested battle at the New Lawn during midweek saw Swindon beat the Rovers in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Tom Broadbent scored in the 93rd minute of the game, but it was not enough for Swindon to jump ahead of Forest Green in Group M as the Rovers stayed second on goal difference.
The last time these two faced was at the One Call Stadium last season. Forest Green ran out as 4-3 victors that afternoon.
CJ Hamilton put the Stags in front after three minutes of the game and Danny Rose added a second after 20 minutes of the game.
Now-Stags defender Ferrand Rawson pulled it back to 2-1 for Forest Green just before half-time. The defender added his second of the game to level the score at 2-2 seven minutes into the second half.
Carl Winchester made it 3-2 in Forest Green’s favour on the hour mark as the Stags completely fell apart. Nicky Maynard pulled it back to 3-3 in the 91st minute, but it would be Forest Green who ultimately got the win as Aaron Collins scored in the 96th minute of the game and took valuable points that Mansfield were craving away from them.
