This weeks Gallagher Premiership action commenced with two matches on Friday evening.
At the AJ Bell Stadium, Sale Sharks defeated Leicester Tigers 36-3, thanks to a hat-trick from Marland Yarde.
Despite an early penalty from Tigers Noel Reid, Sale gradually took control of the match. Their first try came from Bryan Evans, who charged down a Jack van Poortvelt kick to dive over the line.
Four minutes later Yarde burst through to touch down. Coenie Oosthuizen then went over for his first Premiership try as Sharks led 19-3 at the break.
Leicester, had Dan Cole and Reid sinned bin early on in the second half and couldn’t prevent Sale picking up their bonus-point try 12 minutes from time from Yarde. The winger then touched down again to complete a memorable night and send Sale up to second in the table.
Wasps inflicted a record defeat on Saracens at the Ricoh Arena, after compiling a 60-10 rout of Saracens.
The hosts ran in eight tries and claimed the try bonus point after Wasps scored three tries in 13 minutes. Jack Willis, Nizaam Carr and a brace from Zach Kibirige had the home side in cruise control by the break.
After the interval Sarries Alex Lewington was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on. Brad Shields then got in the act by grabbing a brace of tries inside 11 minutes to complete the comprehensive victory for Wasps.
Two sparkling tries from Ruaridh McConnochie completed a fine all-round display from the winger as Bath completed a third successive victory to defeat Harlequins 19-12 at the Rec on Saturday.
Quins, already shorn of 20 injured players, suffered another blow when winger Cadan Murley hobbled off. McConnochie went over for the hosts in the 12th minute with Quins responding in the 28th minute through Alex Dombrandt’s try.
Harlequins took the lead for the first time in the match when Marcus Smith went over, only for penalty kicks from Freddie Burns and McConnochie’s second of the afternoon enough to get Bath over the line.
London Irish soared up to fifth place in the table with their third win on the bounce after seeing off Gloucester 24-20 at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
Irish led 10-3 at the break with a Billy Twelvetrees early penalty cancelled out by Ollie Hassell-Collins crossing after 13 minutes. The youngster then picked up his second try of the afternoon five minutes later to give the hosts an early advantage.
His hat-trick arrived in the 43rd minute after intercepting Twelvetrees’ pass. Hassell-Collins rounded off a memorable day by going over for his fourth try of the afternoon with 59 minutes on the clock.
Another young winger Louis Rees Zammit, crossed for a third Gloucester try eight minutes from time, but Irish held out for another fine win.
Bristol Bears moved into the top four of the table after completing a narrow 13-10 victory against Worcester Warriors at Ashton Gate on Sunday.
Bears went into the break with a 10-0 advantage, thanks to five points from the boot of Callum Sheedy and a try from Luke Morahan. Warriors were right back in the contest shortly after the restart when Nick David crossed. A Scott Van Breda penalty levelled the game with ten minutes remaining, but Sheedy quickly restored Bears advantage to shade the match.
Exeter Chiefs ran in eight tries as they thumped Northampton Saints 57-7 at Sandy Park to stretch their lead at the top of the table.
Chiefs dominated the opening half, by going into the break with a 22-0 lead, after tries from Jonny Hill, Elvis Taione and Jannes Kirsten.
Within seven minutes of the restart, Chiefs had secured the try bonus point when Tom Hendrickson crossed. There was still time for Hendrickson to get his second of the afternoon, with Ben Moon, Tom O’Flaherty and Sam Simmonds added further tries to put the icing on the cake for Chiefs.
